Yeah, but I'm pleasantly surprised, whereas I should have been all out excited for it. I was afraid it would fall flat. Kind of a puzzling tactic, releasing most of it piecemeal. But again it really does come together as a full piece, and has been developed really nicely. Will take subsequent listens, but I do love it.

Cat’s Eyes - Cat’s Eyes - 2011

Cat’s Eyes are a duo formed by Rachel Zeffira, a Canadian opera soprano and classical multi-instrumentalist based in London, and Faris Badwan, the singer from British psychedelic-rockers The Horrors. In the collision of their two very separate worlds, something magical has come into being. Cat’s Eyes eponymous debut album is a romantic pop masterpiece fit to dine at the same table as mid-’60s productions by Phil Spector, Joe Meek or Shadow Morton, but with a fiercely modern, experimental premise, which constantly leaves you wondering just what you’re listening to, and how on earth it was created.

Family Portrait - Family Portrait - 2011

Image

RIYL Real Estate

Ridgewood, New Jersey native Evan Brody created Family Portrait in the spring of 2009. Produced with best friend Julian Lynch, Mixed by Sam Franklin (Big Troubles, Fluffy Lumbers) and recorded at the Brody family home, the first Family Portrait LP is intricate, intimate, and lingering pop music. The album features cameos from La Big Vic frontwoman Emilie Friedlander on violin and back up vocals, and Jackson Pollis (Dream Band, MisShapes) on drums.

Underwater Peoples is proud to be releasing such a personal, yet wholly communal endeavor.

Listening to the new Feelies and it's surprisingly good.I'm enjoying it way more than I thought I would. I almost didn't even download it.

I heard it was supposed to be all new...their first such record since 1999.

Really well done record for sure. I am extremely impressed at how warm this is as a whole considering the backbone of the whole thing is one of those tabletop Korg M3s. I like that he has embraced a new piece of gear and recognizes the benefits of new synth technology vice using an old Jupiter/Moog/CS just for the sake of knobs and nostalgia--I think by using it almost exclusively it makes the record more cohesive/flow smoother in some way, a completely unexpected byproduct of his process for me.
