My post should also say that said sensible repub candidate would have to win the primary. Dems' best hope is for someone to win the primaries on a "they're gonna implement sharia law if we don't repeal Obamacare" platform. Because Paul Ryan's budget plan ain't cutting it - no pun intended.

Is it just me or does a Tuesday night seem like an odd choice for someone to host a naked cocktail hour?

He'd be a viable candidate if he wasn't a dead ringer for Letterman's fat stagehand, George.

what makes you say this? most polling data ive seen puts him in a pretty good position

it just seems like america is generally pretty "meh" at best on barry - even his most ardent supporters from '08

i personally am not against him returning for a second term, but i don't feel much buzz out there for him these days

I think is pretty spot on, but like I said, at the moment I don't see anyone out there people are going to get super excited about, even Daniels, who I said above COULD put the general election coalition together to beat him.

I also vacillate between the right type of candidate who would be able to beat him - is it a firebrand, a blank slate or a hyper-competent type with conservative credentials.

that was my original point - barry will win by default, because the repubs' '12 roster is weaker than the dems' '88 parade of hot garbage

Christie can be a real jerk from time to time, but the truth of the matter is that he's the best governor we've had in this state since the 1960s or earlier, and pretty much every governor we've had has been a douche. What separates Christie from the rest of the douches is that he is at least actually trying to fix things, whereas every other governor did the "put the piece of electrical tape over the check engine light and hope it goes out on its own" solution.

I don't know a shitload about him, but the one appearance I saw on Meet The Press (I think it was) left me sorta surprised... I didn't disagree with anything he said. He gave ground on usual hotbutton questions like [Essentially, "say something remotely good about Michelle Obama" or "say out loud that when Barry actually did something republicans originally asked for, it was a good thing and not the second coming of the antichrist"]. He sounded ... sane.

He also has to deal with a Democratic legislature, rather than a bunch of Birther Fucktards and Uterus Warriors.

The dems "school house rock" education on how a bill becomes a law was absolutely brilliant and the first thing I thought of when I heard Cantor going retarded.

Donald Trump, a now self-proclaimed Tea Partier enthusiast received a large poll jump (not to be confused with pole jump) and is ranked at about 17% (second) in the running for the republican candidacy who on the Today Show during this morning's interview said, "I don't care about Libya unless we're going to get that oil. The whole rebellion has turned into this romanticized ideal, but I think the rebels are Al Qaeda".

Priceless. Federal Elections = An Exercise in Futility.

EDIT: Trump also stated that he used to believe that Obama was a citizen and born in the US but his team of researchers over the last few weeks have turned up..."well, you wouldn't believe the stuff they're uncovering" and he thinks that while he isn't saying that Obama was born in Kenya, it is "becoming a real possibility that he wasn't and if so, it is the greatest con on America in history".
