I just got done with a two and a half hour alphabetizing of my cd case. It was awesome and tedious at the same time.

Thank you.

The last time I alphabetized my cd collection, I almost went fucking mad. From CDs, jackets, and jewel cases, I had shit everywhere. I transfered all my discs into travel cases. It took me forver.
That was 3 years ago. I really need to do it again, but really have to be in the mood for a project like that.

Okay, so you alphabetize your CD's. What about a particular artist? Do you alphabatize their CD's based on their titles or do you put them in the order they were released? I do the latter.

I do it your way, Steve, in order of release.

Which reminds me, I need to get on this one of these days.

I'm very excited about doing this, but it will probably be some time from now as I currently have no room for shelves.

This would require me taking a couple of days off.

w/ over 1000 cds, this kinda project would take forever for me... of course, i order mine by favorite cd to least, but that ordering's been out-of-date for a while now and i want to reorder alphabetically, but just don't have the time or desire.

I used to do this, when mine were organized. Probably every one of you would puke if you saw the dissarray my discs are in. Sitting in the guest room/media storage room at Bloor's manse. The last 4 times I've been there I set a goal to do SOMETHING about them, and haven't even touched em.

I don't understand how anyone can maintain a library without some semblance of order. Alphabetical makes the most sense to me, how else do you possibly find things? My project, that I might undertake someday, is to catalogue these beasties in a spreadsheet, complete with track-listing, and maybe key words for the songs. It would be a mix-making machine.

It's pretty easy to keep them organized after you do this, as long as you have enough space for expansion.

I have a big wall of CD shelves.....bout 2300 of em, at this point....alphabitized as well.....

Within the next 3-4 years, Im gonna eliminate jewel cases, and keep em in plastic sleeves.....Eliminate two of my 500 CD holding shelves.....

Im getting to the point where i dont feel the need to display em...

Unless i buy a houser in that time frame...then, ill have a room for this stuff.

I have created a spreadsheet for my cds. I have 4 pages. One alphabetical by artist, one alphabetical by album, one chronilogically by year and one by number of tracks from least to greatest. I have also created statistics for each such as how many cds by an artist, how many albums that start with each letter, how many cds released per year and per decade. I am quite proud of this accomplishment. If you have a database at Guzzlefish, it makes creating these sheets much easier.

Alphabetical by artist, Chronological within artist, with a matching Excel spreadsheet that needs updating.
