Also my hands shot up in victory regarding FemDerris and the Ephemere. Woot!

You're right. I actually like their Rare Vos, Chocolate Indulgence, and their Witte. It drank pretty goog. I thought the Hennepin was okay but I had heard a lot of hype for it.

Haven't had their Adoration though. Guess I just had, for whatever reason, built up an unrealistic expectation for their beer in general.

Their distribution seems to be good, so for a lot of people in a lot of places, they = Belgian Beer with few competitors. And for my money, they do a great job most of the time. But hype has probably gotten ahead of them.

I had a ton of beers at East Nashville beer fest last Saturday, but don't remember half of them because I got drunk, didn't take any pictures and femdisco threw away the sheet I half-assedly kept up with what I was drinking. Fun times...

That IS really good, but fuckballs is it strong. I think it would take me 2 hours minimum to drink that, and I'd be buzzing bigtime by the end of it.

Blanco Basura. If you don't know Spanish, look it up.

Cheap and fairly tasty. Great on a hot day.

My first foray into the world of Growlers began in earnest last night. My local spot begain offering them yesterday. $5 for the 64oz Growler (refillable) and, for now, 16 offerings on tap. Range went from $7.99 to $48.99 to fill up a Growler depending on the beer.

Went with the Victory Braumeister Pil (their take on a German Pilsner):

Will report back on the beer but for now I'm just happy as a pig in shit to have the option to get 'em.

Haha. Fit perfectly in my little flat console area but who am I kidding, I got in the back seat with it and fuh'd.

I seriously walked out of that place with the enthusiasm of Lloyd Christmas:

Oh shit, nice. I can get a few beers here in growlers, but they're hard to find and nobody seems to refill... it's just a bigger glass container of beer.

Yeah, after seeing the prices it was pretty much the same cost as a 6 pack of the same thing.

I guess the point is that it's fresher out of the tap?

Regardless, I'm enjoying the novelty and the fact that we now have the option AND they just voted to allow counties to vote in the next election to allow Sunday sales.................feels like................victory.

(supply chain nerd / hippy alert) I would be stoked just to have 100% reusable containers, brew-to-guzzle. No waste.

I'm counting on Ben to bring me a few of the bottles - there's a Cold Keg operation in Macon County that I would be much more apt to use if I weren't getting old fucking plastic milk jugs of beer.

I'm going to a tapping party for the Sprecher 25th Anniversary Belgian Style Dubbel tonight. It got an A- score on Beer Advocate.
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/144/59323

Avery Beers will no longer be available in Nebraska and 15 other states for a few months as they attempt to maintain their current level of production and rethink their business strategy. They are hoping to re-enter the Nebraska market in 18 months. I don't drink their products on a regular basis, but I hope they come back, since several craft breweries are starting to withdraw from certain markets to maintain current production levels/sales in their principle market place.

I bought a mix and match six pack and a few random bottles to consume tonight rather than head downtown and deal with a bunch of drunk husker fans after the Spring game.
I got a few Summery beers and some made with Rice or Rye.
The List:
Chameleon Brewing Co. Fire Light Ale
Shiner Ruby Redbird
Great Divide Samurai
Great Divide Hades
Aldaris Porter
Acme California Pale Ale
Chameleon Ryediculous IPA

I love that Samurai, and I don't think I've had any of the others.

So I'm gonna mail a big ol' box of beer to Derris, I think. I've been trying to get it together for a week solid, but work and the universe have conspired against me to keep me from having enough good shit to send. I hit up 2 local stores near work, trying to get just 2 or 3 basic, decent beers from around new england, and both places had such shitball selections I couldn't scrape enough together to have something worth sending. A third place I went to was a two-fer of bullshit - bad selection AND right wing talk radio on, slamming Obama for lack of clarity on his budget plan. The guy behind the counter was kinda gruff too, I don't know if it was the fact that I had a bunch of motorcycle gear on(?) or what, but he gave me the really gruff "CAN I HELP YOU FIND SOMETHING!" from 20 feet away after I had walked the length of the coolers twice, and my "how about some decent beer?" response probably didn't help. I stopped myself from explaining that his choice of radio stations alienates about 60% of his customers on the way out, remembering some recent advice from Busty that I'm probably too confrontational these days. I don't know what to do to fix it besides shut the hell up, so that's the plan as often as I can manage.

Meanwhile I did manage to swing by the local home spots on friday, so it looks like I have the following qued up to ship out Tuesday:

Goose Island - Bourbon County Stout (22)
Goose Island - Matilda (22)
Pretty Things - Baby Tree Quadruple (22)
Butternuts - Pork Slap (12)

and I'm gonna go to the store again in a few hours when baby-san wakes up, may pick up some other 12 ouncers. I'm thinking some Cisco stuff from Nantucket, maybe some Double Bag. The point isn't to send him life-changing stuff (except Bourbon Co, which is fucking amazing), but to let him try shit he can't get in ATL. Hopefully it all makes it intact, and is worth it.

I thought I would take the time to promote what I have been working on for the last month. I organized a benefit for the Nebraska Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation that will be taking place on May 7th at the Derailleur Tap Room in Lincoln. It will feature beer from various Nebraska Breweries and beer foods prepared by a local chef and various homebrewers. The atmosphere will be potluck style with prizes going to the best beer food dishes.
I've been experimenting with lots of beers while cooking on Sunday Afternoons, and hope that some of the area gourmands produce some really interesting food pairings for the event.
I'll be sure to document the actual event and give a description of the various beers available at the event when the time comes.

What am I cut glass? I live in ALABAMA man....we can't even get 22 ozers. :)

And, you just have to shut all that shit out - you're NEVER going to change anyone's mind, just as all this dumb shit is never going to change yours. I like to argue shit here, or among friends, but with the general public? Those people exist on Hamburger Helper and wear Ed Hardy.

Or just try to remember that all the anti-whoever rhetoric, and even the good stuff like Susan G. Komen Foundation or whatever is really just somebody's fucking money hustle. Just chuckle and try to respect the grind, I suppose.

What drives me nuts, is it's easier for me to get a beers brewed in Belgium than Michigan.

Phase 1: Derris. In this phase, we find out how to appropriate company materiale in the service of shipping beer, and test out packaging theories to see if said beer can arrive without breaking.

Phase 2: Loogar. In this phase, we send Loog beer confident in the knowledge that it will arrive much as it left... ie, Intact.

I plan on using an insulated polyurethane lined cold shipper from work, with individual bottles bubblewrapped, and air bags taking up any slack in the inner volume. I will probably toss one -20C brick in there just to take the edge off (it's already hot down your way, and those trucks ain't airconditioned), but I don't wanna take up too much interior volume that could've been beer. To keep a somewhat clean conscience, however, I will pay for the shipping myself and forfeit our substantial company discount, which sucks, but I'm already pinching $80 worth of box-etc as is.
