I didn't realize that Big Audio Dynamite were reforming and playing it this year until I saw that they were playing a warm-up gig at the Roxy tomorrow. It had already sold out before I noticed. Probably just as well. I have mixed feelings about their reunion anyway. I really liked the first BAD album but they got worse with time and that Carbon Silicone band Mick had recently was the worst of the worst.

That got me started wondering if there would be secret shows this year in LA as warm-up gigs and went back and looked at the list of who was playing and realized that there wasn't a single band that I'd really want to see. Hope the people who go have a great time and I almost wish I had Dalen's enthusiasm for something like this. I just don't at all. The last time I went to an indie music festival, I found it more annoying to have to sit through the bands I didn't like than I was excited by the short sets of the bands I did like. I'd much rather just go to individual club shows of the few bands I really dig.

Weird that they haven't done food trucks before given how popular they are in LA. Also strange that I only recognize about 3-4 of those trucks. I'd guess that some of them (Kogi especially) will have ridiculous lines.

Kogi makes Korean BBQ Tacos. I've never had it because I'm not really a fan of Korean BBQ but they are very popular. I can recall seeing several block lines to get their tacos when they parked downtown during the artwalks which don't have near the crowds of Coachella. Coolhaus (ice cream sandwiches with homemade ice cream and homemade cookies) are also pretty popular too. Border Grill is the truck associated with the Border Grill restaurant which is a semi upscale Mex restaurant in LA run by Mary Sue Milliken who I think is currently a competitor on Bravo's Top Chef Master. It'd probably be a safe bet but I'm not going to oversell it. There might be better Mex out there. I didn't recognize any of the others. I didn't see it on the list but I like the Lobsta Truck which makes lobster and crab rolls.

Was reading on Yahoo this morning that Cee-Lo went on a half hour late and got the plug pulled (literally) after 4 songs and went on some tirade about the festival organizers.

Also, Dale, I hope you chose Tame Impala over Ariel Pink. Apparently that dude melted down as well and refused to sing due to technical issues.

the blurb in the newspaper this morning said his flight was late and the tirade was that he thought he should've had a later time slot (which he would have made in time).

i know festival organizers need to keep schedules pretty tight, but i've never seen anyone have their audio cut off. usually there're some sound bleed issues with a nearby stage that's punctual and some bridges are burned between the bands. i'm sure there's more to that situation.

Dalen...i hope you saw Suede while you were there. Watching clips on youtube made it look pretty great.

Edit: the Set List looked pretty good as well. (only one post "coming up" song)

I caught the HEALTH webcast...reaffirmed my belief that they are one of the best live bands out there right now. Seemed like a great set.

The douchebag was 30 minutes late for his set time that he knew about for at least 1 week, and his excuse was 'they should have given me a better set time'? Blow me Cee-Lo. The reality is that people had to make some pretty shitty choices between bands and when he showed up late, he fucked the people who chose him over some great acts playing that same time. That being said, his short set was OK and yes, they pulled the plug a few chords intohis cover of "Don't Stop Believing". I have no respect for assholes like that.
Nevertheless, this weekend has reaffirmed my feeling that Coachella is the best US festival evah, if you're in to that sort of thing. Highlights were Cut Copy, Sleigh Bells, The National, Arcade Fire (those balls during Wake Up were seriously fucking awesome), Robyn, High Contrast, Shpongle, Titus Andronicus, The Joy Formidible, OFF!, Tallest Man on Earth, CSS and Crystal Castles.

Suede was the whole reason for me attending Coachella this year. They were fantastic -- had me screaming like a Bieber Nation lil' girl!

Nice to have finally met Dale and his girl! Heard Marko was there, but never saw him.

Same here.

Damn, Tania. I wish I'd known you were there. You should've let us know! Hopefully next year.

What else did you see/like/dislike this past weekend?

My favorites:

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
The National
Cut Copy
Arcade Fire
Elbow
Joy Formidable
Titus Andronicus
Big Audio Dynamite
Broken Social Scene
Lightning Bolt

My only major disappointment was PJ Harvey. She was probably my most anticipated show of the weekend and she was underwhelming--not bad, but just not as good as I'd expect her to be. I've been a fan of hers since day 1 but have never seen her in concert. Not sure if this was just a poor setting for her or if she is too demure to take over a stage and put on a great show. She certainly seems to have the ability to do that but she did not do it Sunday night.
