Finally got around to listening to this. What have I been doing with my life?

Impossible to listen to and not be in a better mood:

I felt the same way when I finally got around to listening to it a couple of years ago.
Now, you need to get a copy of In the Dark and Monkey Man.
Both are nearly as good. Certainly on the same level.

And, if you do not have a copy of this:

your life is incomplete.

Yeah I've had The Harder They Come for years. One of the best soundtracks ever.

The Toots cd I have is actually a two-fer. It has Funky Kingston AND In The Dark on the same cd. Just haven't digested In The Dark yet.

Good. That's the one that I think you need. That's the one that I have, too.

Both of those albums are awesome.

I just got around to getting another Maytals album, Reggae Got Soul, which is from around the same time, maybe just after these, but it's not quite as good.

In a similar vein, I've been listening to This Is Desmond Dekkar lately which is pretty great as well.

Today:

Crystal Stilts - In Love with Oblivion
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Neil Young - Le Noise
Red House Painters - Ocean Beach
The Dodos - No Color
Ponytail - Do Whatever You Want All the Time
Tyondai Braxton - Central Market
Panda Bear - Tomboy
Destroyer - Kaputt

Loretta Lynn - Don't Come Home a Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)

twice more. Probably have to take a break from it for awhile. I've probably listened to it 12-15 times since Thursday night.

There are only 3 full-lengths. Get them all.
Today, this is how I rank them:
3. Intolerance (1989)
1. Good News for Modern Man (1999)
2. Hot Wax (2009)

But, my rankings change day-by-day, and even then, the difference in my feelings between 1 and 3 are miniscule.
Repeat: get them all.

EDIT:
And, I have yet to hear the Ecce Homo EP. Guess that one is next.

Prince Jazzbo: Ital Corner

Prince Jazzbo was a Jamaican DJ in the 70s, who was generally in the shadow of greats such as U-Roy and I-Roy as well as Big Youth and others. However, this album is pretty fantastic and notable for belong the only DJ record to come out of Lee Perry's Black Ark studios. Scratch fans will recognize some of the backing tracks like the rhythms from Max Romeo's One Step Forward. It also contains a few bits and pieces that were to soon appear on The Upsetters' fantastic Super Ape album. Overall a worthwhile listen and an under-appreciated gem.
