I guess I don't really know what Rush song you were referencing by posting that, and I'm glad I don't know.

really good list. glad to see the panda bear and ponytail so high. ditto on the watt record! although i had this down on my list last year, i'm still feeling my way through this opera, and letting it grow. seeing him play again last weekend set me on another watt/minutemen/firehose kick. i predict the timbre timber and gang gang dance will make a run for your top 5.

Yeah, both songs I've heard from the GGD album are awesome, and Timbre Timbre sounds like a better version of Dirty Beaches (or something).

The more I listen to samples of Tune-Yards, though, the more I think I should just stay away.

I'm also pretty happy with that Low album.

Yeah, agreed. I like the Tuneyards record, but I'm also hesitant to get too close to it.
Also agree about Low, though I've held off buying it, despite being listed at only $15.

I tried that Psychic Paramount album, Drinky but I think I was to quick to judge (as always). It was interesting and fun but I had that feeling of "when the hell am I going to even listen to this?"

I'll try again. I hate that Dirty Beaches record. I tried Low, and I've never been a Low fan really, or even really tried, but the press releases and reviews saying it's their most straight-forward was promising to me. Sounded ok, but uninteresting. This is a band I want to get into eventually though.

I can definitely understand hating the Dirty Beaches record and didn't really think I'd like it.

This strikes me as an odd question to ask yourself while listening to something.

But then that's the kind of stuff I'd listen to almost all the time if I could. If there were a whole bunch of bands out there as good as Don Cab at their peak and Laddio Bolocko/Psychic Paramount, then I'd have a huge collection of that kind of stuff.

Start with one of "Things We Lost in the Fire", "Secret Name", and "Long Division" before diving in with "C'mon".

I've listened to all of those and the only one I still have is "Things We Lost in the Fire"

well for what it's worth, i like the low record more every time i hear it, which i could not say for drums & guns, nor really for the great destroyer, or trust. without trying.

I haven't really spent enough time with a lot of things to be able to rank them well beyond in groupings. There's a fair amount of stuff I really like this year though.

1. Daniel Romano
2. The Booze
Yep
Kimmie Rhodes
K.D. Lang
Emmylou Harris
Marianne Faithfull
8. Steve Earle
Ron Sexsmith
Eddie Spaghetti
Jill Sobule & John Doe
The Feelies
Joan as Police Woman
J. Mascis

Didn't much care for:

Gang of Four
DBT's
Wanda Jackson

Still need to hear:

Seun Kuti
Insomniacs
Buddy Miller
MMJ
Johnny
Hayes Carll
Middle Brother
New 76'ers

Came across Ringo Deathstarr - Colour Trip semi-accidentally and I'm surely glad I did. Though I hate the idea of "nu-gaze", I don't really know what else you'd call it.

RIYL: MBV, Lush, Curve
