Of the criticisms one could level at the music of 1968, I find it difficult to believe that anyone would have that particular response. Next up, we're gonna see some haiku out of ol' Rod.

Oh yeah, I've been listening to Scott 2 a lot lately. It's great. I love that first track.

I never realized that he wrote "Black Sheep Boy" until recently, and it's almost funny how superior the original is. I never cared about that song at all until I heard this version.

I thought the song "Black Sheep Boy" that Okkervil River was riffing on was by Tim Hardin, not Scott Walker.

Muddy Waters - Electric Mud

Lots of people hate on this record (AMG gives it 1.5 stars even) but I really love it. It's totally an attempt to get quick cash by combining white people's interest in the blues with Hendrix's popularity, but Muddy's performance is still great.

I think both Walker and Okkervil River covered Hardin.

Oh OK. I guess I remember that now. I just never knew that Scott Walker had done a previous version until I started listening to this album.

Her voice is an acquired taste, but the songs are great. I really, really like that album.

Harvey Mandel~ Cristo Redentor- While Mandel never made it to stardom, he was/is a very talented guitarist, and this debut concentrated on his signature use of effects pedals and distortion in an eclectic range of song styles. I remember him getting decent airplay on early-70's underground FM stations with technically savvy playing. Known for a stint as lead guitarist with Canned Heat and losing auditions for Mick Taylor's replacement in the Strolling Bones, subsequent albums The Snake and Baby Batter are both excellent. Last I heard a couple years ago from a friend in San Francisco, Mandel was still showing up at small blues clubs from time to time to sit in and impress audiences with his skills.

I'm always really impressed by Spirit whenever I pull them out for a listen which I should do far more often then I do. A really great and underrated band.

Very underrated. That album is in the first 10 or so that I ever paid my own money for. I LOVE Spirit.

how is it i just now found out that jay "thunder island" ferguson (a.k.a. composer of "the (us) office" theme song) was their lead singer - i always thought randy california pulled double duty on guitar and vox

cool mention of Mandel, tentoze. Was thinking about posting that myself. I like his non-vocal stuff a lot.

just saying that a lot of this stuff i've either heard or have absolutely no interest in. i do admit a strong bias against most psychedelic music...and a lot of shitty 60's folk music.

i tend to have a strong bias against non-psychedelic and 60s folk music

Cool. Yeah, I think that's the only name I didn't recognize there. Would like to know what you think of it.

Also that song reminds me that I should listen to some Kris Kristofferson sometime. Not that that has anything to do with 1968.
