I haven't completely listened to this record in 24 years.
It's a good thing I incidentally discovered the vinyl, because otherwise I would have just skipped around to the singles.
The song writing is good in a trite character-based story-telling sort of way that was already tired in Springsteen terms by this time; but nonetheless it's the most captivating part of the recording.

Musically, it's stale, packaged cookie-cutter bullshit.

The hits: I'm on Fire, Dancing in the Dark, Born in the USA were released because they are by far the best this album has to offer.

Not disappointing, just something I won't be returning to any time soon.

It's a good thing that you were forced to listen to songs that you didn't like? You're such a pretentious twat.

I wasn't forced. I was curious. You're an illiterate Southern shithead.

I think it's a great record. I always skip the title track but otherwise I like everything, especially "Downbound Train", "Bobby Jean" and "No Surrender".

i like the title track in the context of the album, and as Reagan's theme song.

I'm Going Down beats all. jerkass, Babes, you'd be so much more palatable if you had musical tastes or any social graces to go along with your "Bloor and Loogar circa 2004" schtick. It's all been done before babe.

Yeah, the writing is good if you like hearing the Boss be a factory worker, a union worker on a tip, a prisoner working the highway crew or an unemployed guy making a reference to a train or a bus in every fucking song. I get it. He's creating the character of a blue collar schmuck writing love songs...in every song.

And your unoriginal ass was giving me shit for using "babe" a couple months ago.
I get it.
You're a domesticated 'badass' who likes familiar music and busting people's balls for entertainment.

If you think anyone is familiar with any references to your past, you're delusional.

I don't normally respond to your retarded shit because you're a stupid Southern know-it-all know-nothing caricature:
An unsubstantiated and standardized toolbox bro-boy given his job with backslapping buddy support resulting in:

A pathetic man with "impeccable taste".

Cheers to hoping your kids turn out better!

Stupid fucking loudmouthed retard.

Well now my friends, we seem to have touched a nerve in Semke's bunboy.

Just one thing, babe, you used retard not once, but twice. What next, Kobe, "fag"?

Also, I love how you know "nothing of my past" and I'm "delusional to think that anyone does" but then you state for the record that you know exactly what I'm made of and what makes me tick. Which one is it? Or did the punk rock manifesto you read when you were 14 not delve that far into logic?

And you're missing the point here. This an awesome record marred by the gussied up 80s studio sound. Which somehow makes it that much better when you listen to it 25 years later.

I didn't read your egocentric response completely.
The first few words were flailing.
Still sounds like a horseshit record that could have been 10 times better.
And you're still a stupid loudmouthed prick that was given his place in life.
Given.

Governor Walker, why are you posting on an obscure music board under an assumed name? There are still 14 Wisconsinites waiting to be greased up and ass-raped. Go to work.

I enjoy it.

But my military dad, my mediocre wife and my platter-served political job, and a child will make things relevant..
and interesting?
..
or not.
but i'll tell you different for the sake of me.
i'm just an undercover cock sucker.

Funny that for the second time tonight, I'm encountering the psychological phenomenon known as projection.
