Apparently about 15 dead between Arkansas and Alabama this afternoon and parts of Tuscaloosa were obliterated when a fucking twister touched down.

Kind of an eerie calm in Atlanta right now but it's coming. Tornado warning until 2am tonight.

Batten down the hatches Bloor, Drinky, Gar, and FU Dave.

Trailer parks across Georgia are now holding their breath.

We wait.

I'm just pissed that UPS scheduled the delivery of my new work computer from Fort Worth to Dallas to Louisville to Austin. And since they have those fancy GPS systems that keep the drivers from making left turns, they clearly do not have the fucking WEATHER CHANNEL, because I knew there were storms in Louisville yesterday, and UPS still flew the fucker up there, where it sits, grounded. I could have driven to Fort Worth and picked the damn thing up and been back home.

Damn, my dad just called me. I was oblivious about this until just now, but it sounds like it's pretty treacherous down there right now. Hope everyone's all right.

We're ok right now. I actually txtd you Derris - tell yer folks to look the fuck out. This shit is no joke. Tuscaloosa looks like a bomb got dropped on it. 25 confirmed dead.

Latest total is 193 dead in the last 24 hours.

Atlanta was pretty much spared. I only got moderate winds and some rain in my part of the city.

But North Georgia got strafed hard with several tornadoes reported and 11 dead.

Sounds like MS and AL took the brunt though.

The Tuscaloosa twister was approximately one-mile wide... that's unbelievable. The destruction it's caused is scary and sad. Thoughts & prayers to everyone affected.

Yeah - its pretty crazy. People I know's kids had their apartment roofs ripped off, etc.

It'd be like a tornado going down Milledge by that janky shopping center, and then going through the intramural fields and through University Commons, basically.

My business partner texted me last night and was like "the apartment my brother and I lived in my freshman year was just shown on the news - it didn't have walls"

To his credit he's actually headed up there to volunteer with clean up efforts. He's buddies with the sheriff, and packed up a generator and chainsaws and shit.

I'm just going to make myself feel better by A) liking "prayin fer the ternaduh viktums" on Facebook, and texting the red cross donation thing $10 from someone else's phone.

Nothing beats having a toddler in the bed, the news on, the tornado siren going off 3 different times between 10pm-1am, and a makeshift tornado dungeon set up.

Added up to a great nights sleep I tell ya.

All the bad stuff was either north or south of us though so we were fine.

I too slept like shit, but not because of weather... wife has Strep, so she's quarantined upstairs to the bedroom, and I got the couch to sleep on. It's only 2 cushions wide, so I had to use the other chair / ottoman and build a platform, and then laid down to realize that I had no blanket downstairs. So I slept under my bath towel.

I got this apology in an email today.

Bad timing on that tag-line I guess, to be honest I didn't even notice, but the must have had some complaints...

Quote:
Dear Patrick,

We messed up. Yesterday, as the people of Alabama dealt with the devastating aftermath of an intensely damaging and life-taking tornado, we neglected to put a stop to the distribution of an email with the header: "Mother Nature hates you. Deal with it." This was extremely insensitive and offensive, and we are so sorry.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for this mistake. What was intended to be witty marketing copy may have been when we wrote these words two weeks ago, but in light of current events and the suffering of people affected by Mother Nature's wrath, it is not only not witty, it is completely unacceptable.

We at Backcountry.com send our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to everyone now faced with rebuilding their homes and their communities. And again, we extend our sincerest apologies for our lack of foresight and our complete insensitivity in sending yesterday's email.

Sincerely,
Jill Layfield
