Fuck yeah Derris!!! Five tours in the Middle East. I got a hole in my leg, I've watched buddies die, I've hauled my best friend's arm around in a helo with him on my lap, been blown up more fucking times than I can count. Was on the ground when Zarqawi went down, and that doesn't even compare to this. I have had a bottle of Dom in reserve for almost ten years now. Me and the four guys left that made our first trip into Afghanistan back in '01 all have called each other and cracked our bottles tonight.

Fuck him, couldn't be happier that this fuck and everyone who looks up to him and will call him a martyr and glorify this piece of shit have lost him.

I'm getting wasted. HOOAH BITCHES!!!!!

Enjoy the night, man.

And thanks.

Damn. Drink it cold, or water the lawn with it. You deserve it.

I get what you mean, I liked Barry's speech, but you had to know people would react like this. I've seen so much failing by people trying to put their political spin on it.

There's a million snarky jibes at Bush and Barry, the entire 10 years, and America in general - but I have fucking chills over this. Craziness.

Maddow just nailed it: this feels like something America DID. It's an accomplishment.

Agreed.. Thanks. Thinking about all my buddies and co-workers who've been on constant deployments since 2001. What a night.

@rogneeb: I don't really get the "he had nothing to do with it" BS either. Being Commander in Chief means that a perk of the job is that when you sign an order to go get a doucher like Bin Laden and it works, you get to take credit for it. Also, I didn't see it as Obama taking credit anyway, just acknowledging that he signed an order and that the military did their shit. Whatevs. I'm over the haters. So, I leave you with these nuggets of awesome:

Also, he said "I" too much in his speech.

And, since we buried him at sea this was all a big ruse maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.

"Today I am overwhelmingly proud of our military and my current cousins who are serving I will not patronize nor cheer for a president but rather those who have actually served and lost! sadly the men that pulled the trigger twice and sent 2 rounds of .223 into a monsters head wont be recognized THAT my friends is SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY not standing at a podium taking credit!"

oh dear. how should i respond?

I guess I'm glad, but I kinda think people are making too big a deal in some ways. I mean, terrorism is way more than one man.

Of course, if this symbolic act lets us start scaling back our military actions, I'll be very thankful indeed.

oh it is indeed, but killing the leader of a Al-Qaeda is a pretty big deal.

I get that, but the thing is that OBL was one damn talented & effective terrorist. Think of how many Richard Reids and underwear bombers (not to mention "terrorists" set up by the FBI), there are for every one of him.

I think the symbolic thing is massive though. When we went in back in '01 we were told to eradicate AQ. We chased that fucker out of Kandahar and it was brutal. It was our introduction to assymetric warfare, a topography that we had never faced, and it took a serious toll. At that time all we knew (those of us on the ground) was that UBL was responsible for 9/11 and we were supposed to kill him.

Then IZ kicked off and it was the same combat challenges now in an urban environment, and again it was brutal man. And again we were told we were stopping the spread and influence of AQ. Everything has been tied to this guy for almost a decade for us--in the back of our minds everyone of us questioned it at some point--why are we dying, what are we doing chasing this local insurgency, what is the quantifiable success of COIN operations--there was always that doubt, as we had never come up with the one thing that in our heads sent us there--and that was him.

Symbolically last night meant so much to so many of us--it was some of sort of vindication and closure--it made it feel like it all wasn't for nothing. Now like you said the world keeps going--AQ is not dismantled, local insurgencies are still out there and taking their toll, but this is a massive victory, there couldn't be a bigger hill or new line of forward advancement more significant--no physical battlespace gained could mean as much as this does.

Also, apparently last night I reverted back to my 20 year old self, as the night culminated with me attaching flags and sparklers to my daughter's bike and riding it up and down the driveway doing some fairly rousing vocal renditions of Sousa marches I have been told. My head hurts and I am calling in today--you only live once though, right?

Shit man, anybody that did time in that godforsaken land should've been given the day off today anyway. Hell, Obama should've just said at the end of his presser last night....."Oh and by the way.......".

I don't care if you wanted to paint your body red, white, and blue and walk down the street with a roman candle sticking out of your ass. You earned it.

While I, too, am relieved to hear this news, it has caused me to revisit maybe the most-holy piece of writing of the last 100 years. (IMO)
Fucking brilliant piece from The Onion:
God Angrily Clarifies "Don't Kill" Rule

And, again, thank you to all of you who have served. We owe you everything.

Also, when do family members of those lost on 9/11 and families of those soldiers KIA get to defecate on his corpse?

Privately of course.
