I raised a glass last night. Well done servicemen/women. And way to keep the lips tight on the plan all along.

As someone who lives by "3 people can keep a secret if 2 are dead" the OpSec here was brilliant.

Of course there are waves of emotions, and people who seek gain for their personal political beliefs, especially in the age of The Personal Megaphone of Fail that is "socgialb megbiag" - but this is a big emotional deal for a country that has basically been reeling since 9/11. The intervening 10 years may yet go down as some of the weirdest on record.

i'm on another board where the "osama dead" thread has turned into a discussion about the legality of the US murdering a person in a foreign country without first alerting that country's authorities that they were going to do so. thanks for keeping it real, obner.

so true, and one could argue the signs were there in the mid-late 90's

Yeah even our late night text convo about this was less witty than normal and perhaps even reflective and reverential.

With requisite pee pee and racial jokes of course.

My business partner (who isn't a right wing nut but is def. a Fox News type) and I just discussed this--he suggested a ticker tape parade and we both agreed people should get over themselves for at least a day and feel good about this, themselves and America.

As I was blasting The Rising on the way in I even saw a couple of cars flying flags. Nostalgia indeed.

Our other question: Who gets the $25 million?

Anyone who can't set aside his own political agenda to celebrate the death of this monster needs to follow in his fall.

Fuck yeah Derris!!! Five tours in the Middle East. I got a hole in my leg, I've watched buddies die, I've hauled my best friend's arm around in a helo with him on my lap, been blown up more fucking times than I can count. Was on the ground when Zarqawi went down, and that doesn't even compare to this. I have had a bottle of Dom in reserve for almost ten years now. Me and the four guys left that made our first trip into Afghanistan back in '01 all have called each other and cracked our bottles tonight.

Fuck him, couldn't be happier that this fuck and everyone who looks up to him and will call him a martyr and glorify this piece of shit have lost him.

I'm getting wasted. HOOAH BITCHES!!!!!

I'm logging in for the first time in forever to say " THANK YOU!" And you deserve your happiness in this monster being dead.

I've had to deal with a bunch of hippie moms all day who are so upset we killed someone, no matter how evil they are. I've had to withhold by telling them they're all a bunch of morons.

And reading this post and the subsequent one really made me feel good about my feelings. My husband's cousin first served in Iraq after 9/11 and he's been in Afghanistan the last few years, and I hear of the toll it has taken on him and all of his friends serving with him. Bless you all for what you've done and for what you continue to do for this country.

My buddy standing beside me at Wilco in Memphis last night saw the news come across Twitter. When he showed me the tweet, we both said "holy shit, no way!". It was a surreal moment as there ever was, standing there enjoying music in a cool, foggy air adjacent to a flooded Mississippi river. Then as I was walking back in the mud from a port-a-potty, I overheard the ever eloquent Sully Erna of Godsmack say over the PA from their stage "We've just heard some news that all the world is going to share in cheering about. We just got a bulletin that Osama Bin Laden is FUCKING DEEEAAAAD". Now back at the Wilco stage, coincidentally they started playing "War on War".

Great news, and I can see where k and his military pals are feeling some sort of closure here, and good on 'em. I for one, even in my liberal tendencies, can support small-scale assassination strikes like this one. Navy Seals are complete bad-asses, and I'm glad this was done under Obama's watch.

Jesus. I had no idea until this morning (this thread, actually), and k - congrats man. This has got to feel incredible and we cannot collectively thank you enough.

One article mentioned they might've gotten clearance from the Pakistanis without explaining any details.

That article Rodney posted mentioned hi tech cloaking shit none of us can comprehend and disguising themselves as Pakistani aircraft.

My first thought when they mentioned that one of the choppers had a mechanical failure and went down was Carter's botched rescue attempt of the hostage's in Iran.

(Notice I said that it was CARTER'S botched rescue, not the military's)
