Nepenthe has a deck cafe w/hamburgers at 5 bucks. the main restaurant has nothing over 20 bucks. and it is the best restaurant view in the world (on a clear day). henry miller library had arcade fire playing in what is essentially a backyard of 100 people. you might check out the concerts in sept. if you try to get to san simeon you'll drive the real big sur (as opposed to popping down from monterey) which will had 3-4 hours to your driving.

MOCA, from its growth in the temporary contemporary in Japantown until today is quitessentially LA... the performance and concept art of the 60s -80s that put LA on the world art map... wave goodbye to grandma.

True but it's worth the extra 3-4 hours and I'm talking the drive itself not even the San Simeon stopover. Just do it one way though and the faster, boring route the other.

The Henry Miller Library does get good concerts. No idea who might be playing in September yet but Gillian Welch with someone else recognizable (name escaping me) will be playing in a few weeks.

I'm not going to bother arguing MOCA with Harry. I suspect he's just a much bigger modern art fan than I. I wouldn't make SF MOMA or the Tate a big priority if I were visiting SF or London either. MOCA does have kick ass opening parties though. For example, Grand Master Flash played at the opening for Jean-Michel Basquiat.

That's awesome - because yes, that view must be the best in the world. I guess it just looks expensive.

I'd love to go back some day.

If you end up in Central Coast or Bay Area, check out Folk Yeah!. They promote those shows at Henry Miller Library billyg mentioned. Next month Camper Van Beethoveen is performing Key Lime Pie there. The last weekend of July, Folk Yeah! is putting on the Woodsist Festival at Fernwood
