Mark Gottfried was hired as NC State coach yesterday. Kind of a left-field choice, considering he has been out of coaching for a couple of years broadcasting at ESPN after his Alabama demise. Certainly wasn't our first choice, since we were trying to go heavyweights (Sean Miller, Rick Barnes) or the current flavors of the month (Shaka, Gregg Marshall of Wichita St), but I'm feeling better about the hire the more I learn about the guy's coaching resume. Supposedly he will have the money to hire a "phenomenal staff." I'm sure the SEC folks might have some interesting things to say about the hire. Who knows, maybe it will work out like the Steve Lavin hire has worked out (for the first year at least) at St. John's.

You see the shots fired by Yow towards Gary at the press conference?

If you guys get Sean Miller, the State message boards are going to lose their shit. Rumor is your AD is en route to Arizona today.

I've also heard the names of Jamie Dixon, Brad Stevens, and Shaka Smart thrown around.

I'd be surprised if Miller would leave Arizona for Maryland, especially at this point in the recruiting process in which he has amassed a top 5ish class.

As a Washington fan, I'd love to see it, though. He's a helluva coach/recruiter and as far as I can tell, a class act as well.
