The Gang Gang Dance record is the best this year, confirmed last night when I purchased it. My current top 10:

1. Gang Gang Dance "Eye Contact"
2. Timber Timbre "Creep On Creepin' On"
3. Fleet Foxes "Helplessness Blues"
4. Panda Bear "Tomboy"
5. Cass Mccombs "Wit's End"
6. Ponytail "Do Whatever You Want All The Time"
7. Miracle Fortress "Was I The Wave?"
8. Low "C'mon"
9. Six Organs of Admittance "Asleep on the Floodplain"
10. Nicolas Jaar "Space is Only Noise"

Wish I had enough room in the top 10 for Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, James Blake (but falling), Bill Callahan.

Probably taking a trip to the record store today to pick up GGD.

Also enjoying that Timber Timbre.

Good to see Psychic Paramount on there.

Oh yeah I looked at it again and I have heard 4 of them (Slug Guts, Psychic Paramount, Tape and Peaking Lights) but I didn't keep them. And that my friend is why you're my favorite boarder, however.

Panda Bear - Tomboy
Craft Spells - Idle Labor
The Papercuts - Fading Parade
Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck

Some good stuff here for sure. I do disagree on that Peaking Lights though--"All the Sun That Shines" is a great single, but just don't think the album as a whole delivered.

Good call on the Slug Guts, Apache Dropout, and Tape records--all probably top 20 for me.

Yeah, so far nothing has really come that close to this for me. Stellar record--can't wait to see them in July. I think it was in the other thread you asked if it was better than Saint Dymphna and I cast my vote for absolutely. There is a nice consistency here/flow of sorts while still exploring a lot of different textures/grooves/influences that I don't think they quite nailed on Saint Dymphna. Plus "Chinese High" is probably my favorite track of the year.

3. Trail of Dead
4. The Stroke

100. A good band that I learned off of this worthless messageboard.

no question!

i can't get over how smooth that track is, despite the multiple psychouts and rhythm modulations in the first minute alone.

k, i agree it definitely shows major growth from st. dymphna, like from god's money before it. but i wonder if it's yet a "career" record. not to draw an obvious comparison, but their trajectory follows that of animal collective, in that they become experimental with more confidence on each record by working within smaller pop conventions.

Dude, have been packing up boxes for the past week prepping for the move out East and this has been playing almost nonstop. Thanks for the heads up on this, took a minute to click for me, but I am really liking this.

This is my current number one. That all of this is accomplished with a bass sax blows my mind. Pretty incredible record.
