what labels have you all been feelin' lately? which releases?

me? gotta go with Rune Grammofon.

just got the latest release from In The Country entitled "this was the pace of my heartbeat" over the weekend, and once again, it's inventive, original stuff. everything i've collected from this label has been class. a few favs from....

In The Country: This Was The Pace Of My Heartbeat
Shining: In The Kingdom Of Kitsch You Will Be A Monster
Alog: Miniatures
Arve Henriksen: Chiaroscuro
Deathprod: Morals and Dogma
Skyphone : Fabula
Susanna & the Magical Orchestra : List of lights and buoys
Arve Henriksen : Sakuteiki
Alog: Red Shift Swing

Not really sure right now because I hear so much stuff online and don't generally notice/remember what label it's from. Used to know a lot more when I was handling the physical product back in college radio.

i hear ya.

also, with downloading so popular nowadays, half the stuff people dl, they probably have no idea what label it's on, or the other artists on that label.

It's still Merge for me.

Their quality is still tough to beat.

The new Spoon and Crooked Fingers are top notch.

I've been all about some Temporary Residence lately. I just recently picked up the newest Eluvium and also the TRR50 comp, but in the past, I have dug stuff by:

Tarentel
Explosions in the Sky
Lazarus
Sonna
By the End of Tonight
kilowatthours
mono
The Anomoanon
Fridge

I've been sporting wood for this little label out of the city called, PLay The Assassin.

As for real labels, my current favortie is Ferret Records (www.ferretstyle.com)

sub pop might go on my list of only through sheer improvement/reemergence in the last 5 yrs. Drag City, too.

whereas both star time and arena rock have sputtered out as of late.

Right now it's Merge because they did the Dinosaur Jr. reissues. Bloodshot and New West are up there too but they haven't put anything out I've bought recently.

It's always hard for me to say. The stuff I listen to is generally all over the place, but two of my favorite records so far from this year are on the same label:

Secretly Canadian

Magnolia Electric Co.
Antony & the Johnsons

And I also really like Racebannon. I hope they either put out something new soon or reissue their first album.

I can't really think of any other labels with more than a few artists I like other than maybe Drag City and Erstwhile.

Six out of eighteen 2005 releases that I have picked up have been on the Rough Trade label so I guess I'd better say Rough Trade.

Based on releases that I've purchased recently and enjoyed a whole lot:
Sub Pop (Low, Iron & Wine)
Interscope (...Trail of Dead, QOTSA, Beck)

Hmm.... 3 favorites that I've been checking out lately:

Sink and Stove Records-
originally Controller.Controller (but then moved to Paper Bag Records)
The Organ

lots of other good stuff coming off that label.

Ghostly International-
Matt Dear. A bunch of other artists that I've been getting into lately, but as for electronica/minimal/techno, this label is where it's at (imho).

Stones Throw-
Haven't really kept up w/hip-hop as of late, but this shit got me. A close friend of mine is good friends w/Peanut Butter Wolf, so she introduced me to a lot of stuff on Stones Throw, and I will have to say I've been digging. A lot.

That's because Stones Throw is the best label in the world.

I don't think that any label has really been hittin' it out of the park for me lately...

robotic empire seems to come the closest though...
