I'm thinking about a mini-vacation to some beach town south of Atlantic City. What's a good quiet family-friendly town down there?

Nah, Delaware is out - an aunt of mine (who my wife hates) has a place down there.

Never been to Wildwood - I remember Daryl Hannah making a crack about it in Wall Street.

I've been to Stone Harbor but not since the 90's. Nice enough, but I I think Cape May is still the "Creme de la Coast."

This is pretty much 100% correct. Cape May is the way to go...pretty town, great beach, lots to do. Although if the family requires some kind of amusement park type thing Wildwood has a full scale amusement park divided amongst three piers. Otherwise, I'd stay away from there and stick to Cape May.

It's been a long time for me but that was exactly the answer I would say. I'm also pretty sure the two towns are right next to one another, so you can sample a little of both...

Well nearly...on the map they are, but it's about a 15 minute drive between them, for what it's worth.

And if you end up wanting to go to Delaware, you can take the hour and a half trip on the ferry from Cape May to Lewes, car and all. Car is about $68 bucks in the summer and then $9-$18 a person, round trip. At least I think that's about the price range.
