Heard one of his songs on tonite's OC ep and like what I heard. D-loaded couple more songs of his and got a Iron & Wine vibe from it all.

What's his story?

He'll be in town Monday night. I just might have to go.

If you hear of a band through the OC you're not allowed to listen to them.

He's really good. I think I may give Michigan the edge over Seven Swans for its diversity, but Seven Swans is very pretty and very personal, so they're kind of albums for different moods. Anyway, I enjoyed his live show too, so I'd definitely check it out. Plus you should be able to get the album for like $10 at the show.

I didn't write the indie rock handbook, I just follow it.

Greetings from Michigan was my #1 album from 2003. It shits on Seven Swans.

I agree... Not that Seven Swans is a bad album.

Oh of course not. But it's probably in the 30s for my 2004 list.

It's just that "Greetings" had one of the best opening tracks in recent memory, and then followed up with something completely different, and then the 3rd track is probably one of my top 5 favorite songs ever (no joke). And it's just, yeah. That album is something special.

I love Seven Swans the best, but whateva.

Enjoy Your Rabbit is absolutely worth a listen (probably once you've heard the above and Greetings ... . It's very very different but makes a lot a lot of sense. Sufjan is very talented. I'm excited to see him Monday.

Yup. My favorite of '04. ...Michigan is great too, though. A lot of factors dictate the preference: point of entry, personal/spiritual themes of Swans, et al.

Yeah I think the spritual themes are what throw me off.

Any of you with record players should pick up the vinyl version of Greetings that came out this year. It's got 5 bonus tracks.

I like Seven Swans about 50% more than Greetings.... I think it's the geographic and economic themes that throw me off.

Do you know if they are the same extra songs that are available on his website?

The geographic stuff just makes it all the sweeter to me, since its my neck of the woods. :)

I didn't know about these. It says those are "no longer available for free download." Guess they want people to buy the album.

i heard that song on last nights episode too, but then again i wasn't too surprised.

Michigan sometimes reminds me of a better Badly Drawn Boy, but i can totally see an iron and wine influence....

I missed him too, Z, he played at the ethical society last night, right? Damn....

I haven't heard seven swans yet, maybe i'll pick it up this weekend...but i'm listening to Michigan right now and i love it....

My copy of Seven Swans suffers from excessively sybilant sound. How's Greetings?

He tends to breathe through his teeth a lot less on Michigan, probably because it's not as quiet.
