I just saw this thread! Uploaded 650 tracks so far. Love the clean interface.

Is there a way to share our lists?

so far i'm not sure. i don't see much other than playback in the interface, but hopefully, it will iterate. i'm glad to have backup of my music online at least.

Nope. According to sources, iCloud will only store music bought on itunes. This is initially, but still--way to drop the ball, Apple.

Those of you waiting (I am), have you tried Amazon's cloud system?

They're going to roll that out first, get a huge amount of subscribers, then they will relax that standard, and get everyone else.

Their processes for business rollouts are annoying, but they know what the fuck they doin that's for sure.

Maybe, but in the meantime I'm already uploading to either Amazon or Google...and not doing it again with Apple. Sure, the 13 yo's and tech-illiterate will jump on board with it immediately, but that's because its all they know. I dunno. I need to read how this is radically different than MobileMe.

I'm curious how people really intend to use this. It doesn't seem to be a remote storage/backup system if you can only upload, not download. You can already store your music files on your laptop and ipod for portability so what does this add? Streaming to your phone? If that's it, I have no interest. I already have a hard enough time keeping my phone battery charged without inventing new ways to drain it.

I guess I'm not missing anything. I just don't see any real value in it to me personally.

Neither of those are going anywhere because people will always want a free service. Also, if you don't own an iphone/ipad its pretty worthless since you won't be able to take advantage of all the features.

Its better than I read it was going to be this morning.

apple's really started to turn me off. i'm pretty much wedded to the android ecosystem at this point. makes me wish i could develop a music management solution and be the android music place to be while allowing for open metadata and playlisting across platforms.

There's a big difference to me between streaming to your device from a cloud (which you note as "download to your device") vs. already having it on your device. Bandwidth, battery consumption, network connection reliability, and potential data costs being big factors.

Don't you know that Apple only takes really money, not fake Canadian money  Nah, blatant reading fail there. Is the Amazon system available north of the border?

It's an evolving portability. I use a computer when I have work to do (e.g., requires Adobe or a spreadsheet). If I'm just screwing around, 90% of the time that's on the phone or iPad. We keep a big iPod in the house as a sort of storage device, along with my external drives, but phones have replaced the iPod. With the evolution of cloud services, I eventually won't have to load in new podcasts or music on my device in the mornings. It's just there. As for battery, I keep phone plugged in at work, and the iPad lasts for a while on its own. At least in theory. We'll see how it actually goes down in practice.

You still may have no interest in this, but I'm interested because my phone/iPad have replaced my computer as entertainment box. I've even come to terms with giving up on physical media, because I can't remember I took a cd out of the box in the closet.

They're are so many area's and locations in Northern Jersey and even in NYC, that get shitty service.
If I go with the cloud or one of the other services, and don't keep any music on my phone nor carry an ipod anymore, what happens when I am in the subway, or a long tunnel?

Unless I am missing something, the idea, while great, won't really be 'great' until all the wireless carriers get their 3g, 4g, 5g 12g services working better!
