I'm kind of irritated that I enjoy this album... the first songs are really weird but after a while it somehow makes sense for a band like morbid angel. have qou already heard it, dalen?

That new Tombs album is kicking my ass. I enjoyed the previous two albums, but this is something different altogether. The production is much better, just a monumental sound. It has a little bit more of that Page Hamilton overtaking a black metal band vibe to it, which I dig. I need to give it a few more spins, but maybe my favorite metal album of the year so far.

Anyone hear the new Dark Castle, yet?

SO HIDEOUS, MY LOVE: NY Post-Black Metallers To Unleash New EP Via Play The Assassin Later This Month
(stream the record, bottom of post.)

Lurking beneath the surface of metal underground, NYC's own SO HIDEOUS, MY LOVE have created a devastating musical hybrid of heart racing proportions. Fusing post rock leanings (Envy, Mono, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and adventurous black metal (Wolves In The Throne Room, Celeste, Heaven In Her Arms) with classical beauty (Arvo Part, Beethoven), SO HIDEOUS, MY LOVE lay claim to the appropriately termed buzz moniker "post-black metal" with newest offering, To Clasp A Fallen Wish With Broken Fingers. Born out of home recordings in the winter of 2008 by composer/guitarists Brandon Cruz and Jack Marshall, SO HIDEOUS, MY LOVE self-released their debut EP, I Balance A Daydream On An Edge Of A Knife, in the Spring of 2010 to an outpouring of love from the heavy music community. To Clasp A Fallen Wish... serves as a companion piece to the band's first release and showcases a further maturation of engaging daydreams and paralyzing musical nightmares.

Said Cruz of the EP: "The word epic gets thrown around quite a bit online when listeners/press/bloggers/ describe what they hear and for me that's the greatest compliment. I wrote the songs and the string arrangements to sound urgent, emotive and 'huge'... a full layered production that was the most destructive and beautiful storm...would've used a larger orchestra if possible. For what was trying to be conveyed with the EP, I remember mixing in the studio throughout December and January and watching the trailer for Terrence Malick's The Tree Of Life on my laptop and thinking, 'If we could get this record to be the guitar band equivalent of that I could die happy.'"

To Clasp A Fallen Wish With Broken Fingers will be available on Snow White or Blood Red 10" vinyl via Play The Assassin Records on June 21st.
Digital is available now at: http://www.playtheassassin.bandcamp.com.
Place pre-orders at: http://www.playtheassassin.com.

All vinyl orders will include a free digital download card to redeem the album and three additional bonus tracks from *the first EP*)

All pre-orders will receive a additional bonus CD from a Play The Assassin artist.

Incredibly heavy and dark. Killer debut album.

DESOLATE SHRINE
Tenebrous Towers
(Hammer Of Hate Records)
46:35min

This is perdition…like falling into an endless chasm…suffocating from invisible hands that will grab your neck and will slowly start to use more strength until you are about to pass away…to then re-awake your miserable soul just to make you suffer more and more…that is what this epic debut release of this band from Finland sounds…many months ago a few preview of the songs to be contained here was more than enough to make me counting the days for the release of this release…and for all damnation empire’s, it was more than worth the asphyxiating wait…crushing and pummeling suffocating Death Metal of the highest caliber…imagine the brutal guitar sound of early ENTOMBED, with the agonizing sound of AUTOPSY and add to that more than a few DARKTHRONE references (from the first AND second albums) and you will probably get an idea of what I am talking…the cover art, band name and title could not be more precise…this is the damned DESOLATE SHRINE which using mostly mid-tempo phases but whilst also injecting enough ultra-fast parts, grabs the listener in a desperate and asphyxiate atmosphere that will not let you go until you are a corpse…also this is a release that will do no justice by listening to it once…every time some new form of dark and obscure abhorrence appears…again and again…some songs length are just so painful it lacerates even more the consumed and tired flesh…doomed and black desolated death will be the final answer…what a magnificent release…this is what agony might sound lie after all…a painful and asphyxiating agony that is…no matter the fear this might invoke, this is a must buy…for those awaiting the end of the world. www.hammer-of-hate.com

Yeah, I've read that "true" black metal fans don't like their style. I'm not worried about that. Just the music.

i also despise Krallice and bands that play in that style. fucking annoying and pointless with no groove, and don't sound evil/dark at all imo, which is something i look for in black metal.

I agree that it doesn't cover that 'evil' theme, but Liturgy is far away of having no groove and being annoying. I expected just a wall of sound at the show and was surprised how brilliant and clear all their parts where distinguishable.

Copenhagen is quite a trip from Berlin. easiest way to get there is by airplane, but since it is on an island all the other traveling options are a bit complicated. Sonne Adam would be nice to see but I still hope they stop in Berlin for a show. one festival this year is definitely enough for me...
btw, tomorrow I'm going to see Maim finally. :rawk:

the webpage says 'massive aussault' from the netherlands. maybe it's supposed to be 'assault', I don't know them. oldschool death metal I guess. and another band from Berlin, called 'el schlong'... it's gonna be a late show, beginning at 10 pm...
