I gave this one plenty of spins and many chances but it did nothing for me...I'll try it again at the end of the year...

of my 15,000 songs on my iPod, 'Beth / Rest' is easily the worst.

It's a complete snoozer. I liked For Emma, but this is pretty awful. I'm amazed that critics gushed a nut over it.

lol

C'mon man, I thought I detected something a little "proggy" about this new album.

Seriously though, I am also at a loss as to why this guy is such a big deal. I'm not going to go so far as to call anything he's done "awful", but it's all pretty unremarkable. Musically, this album is kind of pretty, but honestly I get turned off by his vocals most of the time. And it's just super boring.

Of all the boring shit from this year that's supposed to be a big deal, I think I like Bon Iver a little more than James Blake and a little less than Fleet Foxes.

Awful was a bit of hyperbole, admittedly. I'd have a hard time ranking Blake, Iver, or Foxes because I can't make it through these albums enough.

the album altogether is quite okay, and it's really a bit experimental in parts, but this last song... isn't there a term like 'cringeworthy'?
there is a nice german word, 'Fremdschämen'. you feel instantly embarrassed for somebody else's doing.

Yeah, that's pretty much what "cringeworthy" means. Or cringe-inducing. "Cringeworthy" is more overused slang, not really a real word.

There's probably a better word, but now I can't think of it.

And I really can't remember that song off of the Bon Iver album at all. It all just sort of blends together, and by the time I've gotten to the end of it, I'm usually not paying attention.

So, Bon Iver is the new Badly Drawn Boy? Chubby, bearded, mumbly, & playing songs of unrequited (some his, some the other's) love?

I'll still take Bewilderbeast over For Emma, Forever Ago.

Badly Drawn Boy was always pretty worthless.

I mean, I guess that'll teach me to complain about Bon Iver. Remember all the hype around Badly Drawn Boy? Ugh.

He got a movie deal out of it.

I saw a great concert by Badly Drawn Boy at the Fillmore on his first US tour. He played a stunning two hour set. And then unfortunately kept playing for two more hours...not so stunning.

I still like Bewilderbeast, and For Emma is a nice album. I haven't heard the new one. When I saw him play a few songs at a charity event after For Emma, he was surprisingly rock and/or roll. I take it that wasn't indicative of the direction he was going with this album?

I'm digging the new one as well. Just hits the spot for me. Since people have brought the other two up, I'd go Bon Iver, James Blake, and Fleet Foxes in descending order.
