30 Minutes or Less. i thought this inspired by the real account where a pizza delivery guy actually was strapped with a bomb and forced to rob a bank (or something) under duress. and even though i remember that happening, aziz ansari and jesse eisenberg were really adamant about it only being a coincidence that this is a comedy with the same storyline. still, this was pretty funny. danny mcbride plays the same character he always does. nick swardson's in it. it's a lot of talent. but it's also a big dumb summer comedy. if you like that, you'll dig this.

at the q&a afterward, when aziz wasn't flooded with questions about parks & rec, someone asked him about upcoming movies and he talked about one where an olympic gold medal winner returns to his small hometown and has sex with two guys' girlfriends (aziz and danny mcbride are the guys, supposedly; no word on who the olympian is) and they band together for revenge. michael phelps inspired?

Horrible Bosses - was ok but not great. Laughed some but I wouldn't see it again.

Let Me In - I thought it was great. But I haven't seen the original so I didn't have that to compare it to.

I just watched pt1 a few nights ago and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Definitely way better than the previous two, and now I'm really excited about seeing the ending whereas a year or two ago I didn't care at all.

See the original.

I've never seen a HP movie. I wonder if one day I'll think about remedying that situation?

Honestly, they're not great movies, and I'm not sure I'd recommend going back and watching them all to anyone who hadn't seen any of them.

But for anybody who made it to at least the fourth or fifth movie and gave up, I'd say it's probably worth catching up to see the ending. Granted, I still haven't seen Deathly Hollows pt2, but based on pt1 and all the positive reviews pt2 has gotten (much better than the last 3 movies, I think), I think it's a safe bet.

Inception- Finally got around to watching this over the weekend. As stated already in here, it's a really beautifully done with some great CGI. Still, it was a stretch that this made it onto the nominee list for Best Picture. I probably picked at it a bit too much and I had trouble following at time what level of dream state or subconcious they were in. Maybe that's the point.

Some of the suspension of disbelief with regards to getting into the dreams just bothered me but that's just me.

Really well done and held my interest enough for a Sunday morning. Solid B.

Don't bother unless you enjoy the books. I'm a huge HP fan, and enjoy the movies... but jumping into the movies without reading the books gives a very limited perspective on what is going on. People can do it and enjoy the movies... but that is more the anti-reading pop culture who adores popular things.

If you've already read the books...well, full speed ahead, hombre.

Oh, OK, good to know.

Now I'm gonna go burn some books and check out the iTunes Top 10.

Have you read the Wired article from a few months ago about that incident (pretty sure its the same one you are talking about)? I didn't know about the incident beforehand but it was fascinating stuff.

Here's the link to the story: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/12/f ... bomb/all/1

My wife and I finally watched Se7en last night, and I loved it. I am now a fullblown David Fincher fanboy. Still need to see Panic Room though.

thanks for the link. i vaguely remember that happening and my buddy mentioned it at the screening before the q&a got out of control with people asking about the real incident. but the actors were really uncomfortable talking about it and kept referring to it solely as a coincidence. now i'm not buying that anymore.

YES...I hate to be the guy to say the original is much better, but it's true.

Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2 - Pretty good. Not as good as Part 1 was, some parts felt anticlimactic, but all in all a good end to the series. Kinda weird that this is the probably the last large HP related thing to ever come out, especially since I grew up with the books and movies.

Nah, in 20 years they'll release the prequels and then you'll hate Rowling like the rest of us hate Lucas.

Nope, never read them. Highly, highly doubt I will ever.

I'm watching Inglourious Basterds and it kind of hit me that Tarantino has become the talented hack he always claimed to want to be, but that his former self would cry blood if he realized this is what he would become.

He distills all of his influences into this hokey melange/approximation of what a 70s cheesehouse flick would look like if it was a revenge kung fu flick/Nazi Hunting Jew Soldiers as Dirty Dozen/Nat Turner's Revolt meets Mandingo that is at this point not so much entertaining for it's content or plot, but for it's outlandishness.

I guess that Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction were like this to some extent but the hokiness of it all was toned down. In the newer films he's trying so hard to show you just how damn clever he is that it distracts from the enjoyment of the overall experience.

Rango This wasn't bad. Enjoyed all the Depp/Western film in-jokes. To be honest, I get these mostly for the animation and then I end up enjoying the stories. Its not complicated, nor original but its fun. Probably one of Depp's best performances since F&LILV. The textures were incredibly rendered. They definitely had the leather look down.

True Grit - Good, Not Great. A bit of the usual Cohen Bros quirky take on a straight genre. The little girl was awesome. I found myself wondering if one of the brothers had just had, or has like an 8 year old little girl, which might explain them taking on this movie in this fashion.

Bridges is good, if annoyingly stroke victim like in his speech cadence, and Damon seems to have a fine sub-career playing affable semi-doofuses or straight men. When he first appeared on screen, I thought he was Michael Biehn. I found myself wondering if it would have been a better movie with more actual tension between the two main bounty hunter characters instead of forced eye rolling by the Damon character?

All in all a good flick, worth watching, nothing to really write home about.

The Fighter This will rank higher on the list of the 2011 best picture nominees for me, and so far would be #2 behind Social Network. This works despite it's flaws. Wahlberg plays Wahlberg - and that's fine for this part, and Christian Bale is the leading contender for Over Actor's Anonymous - really eating the scenes like a skinny Nicholson or Pacino. The mom and the rest of the family are awesome - and if I had known what her role entailed I would have thought Amy Adams was miscast, but she does a pretty good job. The scene where she fights with the sisters is hilariously White Trash. I'm sure it was a simplified version of the real story, but I enjoyed the heck out of this one.

Don't often slip into hyperbolic rapture about movies, but, yeah, I can totally say Tree of Life was one of the best movies I've seen in many years. There were some yahoos at the back of the theater. Drunk. They were scoffing at the first 30 minutes (it's like the end of 2001, only it's at the beginning of the movie, abstract, prophetic, "high art").. and eventually the movie's ponderous pace and gravitas wore the yahoos down and they stopped laughing and left quietly. It's a heavy movie, whose "love is the answer" is a many layered and not at all completely comforting resolution.

Yin/yang. Reflective consciousness and blind and brutal being. The mother/source of life and the father/survival of the fittest. God and mystery. Death. Compassionate dinosaurs. It's a silly movie and many will, like the yahoos, think it's too pretentious and inaccessible. It is. But it will love you anyway.

Does Sean Penn over-act his balls off in this? I usually hate his acting.
