I really dig it. Not sure why I never dug into his discography.

Biggest criticism I generally see is that his records are pretty samey from one to the next. So, you may not be missing out on a ton to not dig deep into his catalog. But on the other hand, if you liked what you've heard, there's a ton more that's got the same vibe if you wanna check it out.

Listened to the new reissue on Spotify. Those demos are really great. One of the more worthwhile disc 2 reissues I've seen in awhile. Isn't there supposed to be a big boxset version if it as well? Saw someone said School Kids had it or something.

This is what I was thinking of:

Yeah, not too pretty.
But Yo La Tengo do show up to back him on a few songs on this bootleg. Really great one.

I saw him doing standup a couple of years ago and was incredibly disappointed. He was falling-down drunk, and just as unfunny as he was wasted; the guy could barely speak coherently. It was sad, really. And it pissed me off that I wasted $40 for the wife and I to go and see him.

He does something.
Or maybe he's quit since then. Because he was fucking loaded when I saw him.

The Chess Story

In the spirit of mega box sets like the Stax Collections and the big Atlantic Soul box sits this Chess compilation at a massive 13 CD, plus an informational CDROM. There's a hell of a lot here, but a hell of a lot of it is excellent. Check Berry, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Etta James, Fontella Bass...plenty of big tracks by the legends are here. But, at 13 discs, there's also plenty of room for tracks by lesser known artists, making this thing worthwhile. Out of print and now pricey, but a fantastic collection.
