Not given this choice... but this is one of the best piano players of all time... and he was fat.

I understand the confusion...but he lacked the Fats nickname...this is not open to all rotund piano players.

I do quite like Oscar Peterson though. I am very much a fan of the style of lyrical yet rhythmic small group jazz he cranked out time and time again.

Never really been able to get into Art Tatum, despite his being name checked as an influence by many piano players I do like quite a lot. Maybe I've just not heard the right albums. If anyone has any suggestions there, I'd be curious.

It's understandable why Art got the tag as some sort of ornate window-dressing player. Dude had some serious technique and chops. His chordal voicings' were way ahead of its time. Charlie Parker once said, and I'm paraphrasing, " I just want to play like Art and imitate his right hand with my horn". As for your request, with all of the two-fers available, best of, etc...it can be hard to pin down a proper release. I would go with this cos it has several of his classic pieces.

I should mention every player in this thread kills.
Also, in all of his fucked up, sloppy greatness, Bud Powell should be name checked in ANY thread about jazz piano players. Just sayin.
