Oddly, I think it's too soon to make any judgment about HCR... they probably should have taken parts of it bit by bit... and done single issue legislation.

And it was turnout, not political will, that shifted. Americans voting for Obama - 66 million. Americans voting for Republican congress - 33 million. General election 2008 turnout - 62%. Mid-term election turnout - 44%.

Also, no... Obama has a long list of "promises" of a "change" or (horrid!) even "progressive" agenda that have not been fulfilled... ICE arrests and deportations and much higher rate than under Shrub... guantanamo open and functioning... renditions increased... drone attacks at hugely higher levels... on and on. There perception that Obama has "let down" his base has plenty of evidence. And getting that base out to vote in 2012 is key to our future.

These three things are all related. They (he?) spent all of their time and political will (capital) on HCR while neglecting or retreating on the above.

Thus tamping down belief and turnout among core supporters, and ginning up the #1 group you don't want to fuck with in a midterm: OLD PEOPLE.

Perry's gonna run through that field like Hannibal into Italy until it's him and Romney. Then it's a matter of what journalist out there can break the Perry-homo story first. I know for a fact there are people digging away at it right now.

Perry has potential to be a paper tiger -- he has a long list of enemies and not a very good record to run on.

Then again, they said the same about Dubya.

Yeah, Bush, Inc. is already talking to male staffers Perry has played around with. Mark my words.

But failing that I can see Romney-Perry, 2012. The Biden/Perry debate could be a hoot.

What'd be about 12,000 kinds of awesome would be if it could be proved the still-unsolved arson to the governor's mansion back in '08 was the result of one of his "friends" going Left Eye on him.

Rick Perry FACT that may be interesting only to me:

as recently -- I suppose, though it were two decades ago -- as 1988, Ricardo Perez was a Democratic member of the Texas legi & the co-chair of the Texas Primary Committee of... Wait for it... Albert Gore, Jr.

That's gotta be an albatross, right?

On an unrelated note, this Elizabeth Warren lady is getting every bit of available political press up here...

They wait until the next-to-last paragraph to even mention the other candidates' names.

She won that race when she dropped that "No one got rich on their own. You used public roads to get to your factory...." quote.

Seriously. And poor Khazei has given out hundreds of thousands to Dem causes over the years and has no allies.

I am incredibly curious to watch her race develope. She seems capable of the impossible - being a liberal who can explain their position forcibly.

It will be very interesting. I would love to see that experiment play out in a state that isn't Massachusetts as well.

A win over Scott Chest Hair The Truck Driver will be spun as a "Barry shoulda listened to her" - even if he ekes out a win next year.

Speaking of Walker what's the latest on him? I remember him getting elected with shit-tons of righty support, and then right away he did something that pissed them all off, right? So is he no longer a right wing darling or what?

I think he has $9 mil in his account. It will probably cost $20-30M in principle account spending plus Senate Committees and 527s/SuperPACs on EACH side by the time it's through.

THE ECONOMY IS TERRIBLE - Let's spend $100M on a senate race!
