it's as if the Spiritualized and Springsteen albums filed alphabetically next to one another in your record collection had melted together on a hot August afternoon.

i like that description.

pretty great boot of the show from last friday here

Quote:
On Friday at Cameo Gallery, The War On Drugs performed a superb ninety-minute set that consisted primarily of Slave Ambient material — eight of the album’s twelve songs were played. Of the new songs, the second-slotted “Baby Missiles” was particularly tight and focused.... Other highlights included the jammed transition from “It’s Your Destiny” into “I Was There”, and the eighteen-minute encore of “A Needle In Your Eye #16″ with an extended guitar and sampled-driven ambient jam.

i'm pretty stoked to finally be seeing them live at the end of october.

"Come to the City", especially those vocals towards the end, reminded me big time of U2, circa The Unforgettable Fire

Case in point, centerpiece track "Come to the City" is all about ascension, rising out of the miasmic haze of preceding interlude "The Animator" and gradually accruing all the confidence and verve of Live Aid-era U2.

awesome! thanks for that show link!

they were awesome here last night. saxophonist from destroyer sat in for a handful of songs, which added a perfect new dimension to the sound. caught their in-store set around the corner from my place on a lark earlier in the evening. nicest dudes, enjoying what they're doing. i had a great night.

I'm liking this. There's some songs that remind me of U2 more than their previous work (that's not a bad thing for me)

superb show for me. I know that because I had a smile on my face most of the evening, which is special when that happens. good music, good company

I found that to be true when I saw them in Nashville.
