Is it just me, or does the price of vinyl keep going up? I count 7 sleeves there, which means there are at most 8 LPs in that box, right? (Assuming that no more than one of those, if any. is a double-LP.) That's over $30 per piece of vinyl. I know this is a deluxe, probably limited, vinyl box set, but I feel like prices like that are becoming more common.

Looks like 11 pieces of vinyl total:

8 Vinyl LPs (5 singles, 3 doubles)
12" booklet featuring expanded liner notes
36" x 24" Poster of cover artwork

Which translates to over $22/slab (or over $30/"album" depending on how you want to look at it). Yes, it seems very high, especially considering the CDs of the same music is less than 1/3 the cost.

Even more ridiculous to me is the $500 price tag on the complete box (vinyl and CDs):

Packaged in an individually numbered, trunk-style box, COMPLETE (DELUXE COLLECTORS BOX SET) contains all eight albums on CD and vinyl, accompanied by all 25 of The Smiths' singles on 7" vinyl (including rare and deleted artwork). A must-have for the Smiths completist, the set also includes 12" art prints of all eight album sleeves, a poster featuring the artwork for the albums and singles, expanded liner notes by renowned author Lois Wilson, and THE COMPLETE PICTURE DVD featuring the band's music videos.

You could just go pick up all those Smiths records on original vinyl for less than that box. That better be one hell of a poster.

Define "sketchy" in regards to Denver. I'm sure its like every other metro area, but I can't wrap my head around Denver being dangerous. Barring you ran out of oxygen.

I saw this on deadspin. These announcers need to call the Super Bowl and the World Series.

On the other hand, their enthusiasm overshadows an incredible ride in crap conditions. He was so smooth on some of those hairpin turns, especially considering the slop and the grooves made by other riders. Dang.

That guy's skills on the bike are just insane. Wow.

I could probably ride that course in dry conditions and still take twice as long.

I was supposed to be in Denver on Thursday for work, but so far it has been pushed to next week.

I had to pull off to get gas in Denver once and found myself in a pretty serious hood. Not "worst part of Atlanta" serious but definitely "keep your fucking head on a swivel, white boy" serious.

Per National Enquirer, Joe Mc Ginness's Sarah Palin book will reveal that 23 years old Sarah Palin had a one-niter with then-Michigan Wolverine basketball player Glen Rice. (He was in Anchorage for the Great Alaska Shootout, at that time.)

Which means, as was said in Wonkette comments, Sarah Palin is so good at quitting she can go black, & then go back.

Where's the Nailin Palin sequel starring Lex Steele?

It's 8 Albums, 3 of which are double records so I guess there's 11 LPs but yep it's overpriced. They are also offering everything in both vinyl and cd plus all 25 singles on 7" inch vinyl for just under $500.

Not sure who the target market for something like that is.

Yeah. But it seems like most new single LPs that I see in record stores are running $15-22, and that's up a good bit from what it was 5-6 years ago. I remember that new SubPop albums, in particular, were pretty cheap on vinyl. Now nothing is.

oh i definitely overstated the "sketchy", especially this particular hood. there are some "not-so-great" parts of town (east colfax or five points maybe), but yeah...nothing that compares to anacostia, baltimore or shit, even Lincoln Park in my old stomping grounds of Rockville.

I think vinyl has gone up a bit over time like everything else, but nothing too dramatic in most cases. I think there may be more fancy pressings and that sort of thing they charge a lot more for, but I've picked up a few new LPs for around 10-12 bucks lately, maybe a buck or two more than a few years back, but I don't consider that dramatic. But yeah, the special pressing and sets like that Smiths set have gotten pretty silly. My line is, if I can go out and buy an original in great shape for what you're charging for your reissue, you can keep it.

Wasn't trying to get into a pissing match, btw. Just was wondering. Had never heard about Denver having any "trouble" parts, or being overly run by crime, etc. Interesting.

In unrelated news, Baltimore band Double Dagger broke up after 9 yrs together.

oh i know man...didn't think you were. i think 15+ years here has made me soft in regards to what i consider "sketchy". there is little to no diversity in the boulder area. and Denver has to be the safest, cleanest (and most boring) "large" metro area i've been to, other than SLC maybe.
