Neon Indian-Era Extraña

Quote:
SPIN Says: Laid-back, atmospheric 2009 tracks like "Deadbeat Summer" and "Terminally Chill" established Neon Indian's Alan Palomo as a chillwave founding father. But Palomo's un-self-conscious messiness also made him an easy target. Era Extraña picks up as if that criticism (and 2010) never happened. Some tracks sound 25 years old and they're one Martin Rushent assist away from being genuine synth-pop hits; others resemble M83 in even softer focus, with ethereal vocals lodged
behind a glitchy wall of sound that turns the line
"I could be a shadow" from frilly metaphor to incontrovertible fact.

Have not heard much but seems more straight forward electronic and less tripped out as chasms.

this is really damn good. less autumnal, acoustic...more atmospheric. really suits him well.

haven't seen it yet, but his cover of "Nutshell" has been on repeat around here - and almost has me contemplating listening to AiC again for the first time since the mid 90's.

FWIW, I liked RA's cover of "Down In A Hole"

Not sure why some of you like this band so much, but here you go. Sounds like they took a few lessons from touring with J. Roddy.

It's been awhile since I've wanted an album solely based on the cover. Dead link?

Not sure if this new Dum Dum Girls has been posted before, but a search doesn't bring up anything. I'm surprised by how much I like it - Dee Dee really sings the hell out of some of these songs. A vast improvement over their earlier stuff.

agreed really great album, focused and crafted not thrown together, Caught in One is the track grabbing me right now, that voice is like a cross between, Hynde & Spiteri, pulls me in

. . . Veronica Falls' pop-oriented, reverb-kissed tunes were rooted in mid-'80s influences like the Shop Assistants and the Chills but also found them in line with noisy, poppy contemporaries like Grass Widow and Vivian Girls. Their first two singles ("Found Love in a Graveyard" and "Beachy Head") were released in 2010 by Captured Tracks and garnered plenty of positive reviews. Their first album was recorded with Guy Fixsen (who worked with My Bloody Valentine and Moose in the '80s) and Ash Workman (who worked with 2010s groups like Metronomy and Summer Camp), the end result sounding like a perfect blend of the eras. . .

Yeah sounds like a huge improvement. I still kind of have reservations because I really, really didn't like I Will Be, but I'll check this one out.

Hmmm, missed that. My mac won't do filesonic for some reason. When I enter the capcha it just reloads the page again and again.
