I know this is no hi-tech collectible bass, but i just snagged it off craigslist for the youngest son. They seem to be well liked, from what I've read. He'll be stoked when he gets back from Tampa.

Good enough for voxtrot. Tell him to put flat wound strings on it if it doesn't already have them. They were made to go together.

The whole thing cost me about $800, maybe a tiny bit less.

Thanks, Phil. And, no, it doesn't have flat wound on it, but I'll let him know. He should be back from Clearwater in an hour or so. I didn't tell him I got it.

Came across these after the artist/luthier exhibited his work at Nashville's Rymer Gallery, and thought these guitars would appeal to some Obnerd sensibilities.

I didn't read a wod of his thread but if you're taking up an instrument and decide on guitar you're a pathetic primadonna with delusions of grandeur. learn something else. If you insist on string shit learn the sitar and then feel great when you master the inferior geetar

Also, more on topic, I got asked to play bass at someone's outdoor wedding. I have a bass but no bass amp. Trying to round one up, to no avail yet. This would be the first time I've ever played outside the house in/around Boston.

Buy this and if you don't want it, i'll buy it off of you, although you could flip it on ebay too.

Man that is totally up my alley. No easy way to get it, and nowhere to put it. Shit. I think I found an amp to borrow, and I just cleaned the stingray up and put new strings on her... Once every decade I guess... Now to build up some callouses or I will be a serious Minute Man.

Too late now because you already bought strings but flatwounds are your friend in that situation.

Flats are where it's at.

If you need me to buy that amp, we can figure out how to get it to me later.

Trying to get my fingers back in shape for bass playing (if they ever were, which is arguable at best). Took a work-from-home day today because of meeting schedules, baby stuff, and the wife's work schedule, which means I've already played through that Dan Kelly record once and damn, is that a killer record for bass. SO MUCH fucking fun to play along with, with a little bit of distortion added.

I miss the bass. Shit is fun.

Ok so the wedding went really well.

Image

I had a blast, and actually didn't fuck anything up somehow. That upright was a lot of fun. I even played along behind Wouldn't It Be Nice sorta last-minute. The chords finally clicked, I just knew what to do and it worked, so I played behind the uke and all was well. So now I'm hanging out with these two, and playing guitar / pedal steel with them weekly at their place with the intent of gigging somewhere. That means I wanna finish the custom guitar amp project.

I need to do something with the faceplate and rear plate. Rather than have Cats try to lay out and screen letters, I just ordered 4 different kinds of tiny letters / numbers sticker sheets and will go about it that way. Not sure if I still want to try and mail it to Cats for background color / art, or just rattle can it some tasteful color, then gloss over the whole thing post-stickers. Could be a good winter project.

I would rather have a 12 or 15 than the 2 tens in it now. It's too trebly now, and plugged into a 2x12 cab it sounds 800x better. I know a 12 will fit in this cab. I'm seconds from ordering a weber ceramic silver bell 12" with hemp cone at a 50 watt rating... amp is 15 watts and I want clear headroom so I can play steel through it. Someone talk me out of it or it's over with.

I gotta replace that grill cloth and Fender logo. I still like the Marshall Salt-n-Peppa fabric, sold here. I only need one yard, plus a new chunk of plywood and my jigsaw and staple gun and that bitch would be knocked out in an afternoon.

Order that speaker.

Also, get a new pedal steel, you could use 3x4.

I'm not sure that's the right speaker for what you want but I could be wrong.

Fuck, this thread reminds me I never did post pictures of the bass I bought last spring. Sorry guys.

I would luuuuurv a new steel but there's no way to do that cheap, or anything approaching "cheap." I can sneak in a 12" weber or some grill cloth here and there but $2 grand buys me a new 3-wheel kid-hauling bike from the Netherlands. I want to befriend a dear old neighbor or something and have one left to me in his will. So many fucking easy chords I can't do on that student model.

Bloor, the 15's won't fit, and I want to play guitar and steel, so from what I can see the 50-watt ceramic 12's seem to be the way to go. That or a 75 watt or 100 watt. I figured 50 because I can toss a switch in the back and go to 7watts output... that should be perfect. I need something that kills treble and has a big bottom end, but still sounds like a guitar speaker.

And fucking weber doesn't take amex, so I have to buy a pre-paid visa and order with that or something. C'mon dammit.

I was thinking more that a 50 watt might be too much speaker for the wattage of the amp. (my Black Pearl, for example, only has 30W speakers and is a, wait for it, 30W amp.

I used to have a link bookmarked of a guy who sells a really nice selection of speakers with recommendations and some super sweet prices but I CAN NOT FIND IT.

Ok, I found it. The site has, of course changed but it's still pretty useful:
