it's way too early to tell where this album will eventually place for me in the wilco canon, but one thing is for sure, "One Sunday Morning" just may be their best song to date.

from the first couple of listens, this is going to be one that's going to take a while to reveal all the nooks and crannies. Can't wait to see the songs live in a couple of weeks at the Ryman

"Sunloathe" is basically an homage to The Beatles.

"Art of Almost" may or may not be an homage to "Achtung Baby"-era U2

Boring is exactly how I would describe their last three albums. I have high hopes that this new one will bring Wilco back to its former glory.

Listening now thanks to Barker.

I went to the Central Park show last night. The music was incredible. The crowd not so much, but at least everyone was smoking pot and sharing and sometimes dancing. I was a little surprised that almost no one seemed to recognize the new songs, and most people looked baffled during Shouldn't Be Ashamed.

One Sunday Morning was even better live than it is on the album, She's a Jar was stunning, and even Pat's keys on Shot in the Arm kind of blew me away. The whole band seemed be having a lot of fun together, which was not the case when I last saw them three years ago.

The stage design was cool with the different colors but when it was all white it looked like a toga party threw up in a meat locker. A part of me sort of hoped it would rain to see those things get wet. Also, they were selling the vinyl and CD there.

Will write up something better later--but suffice to say, tonight's show might just have been the best all-around Wilco show I've been to. The new songs sound great, and the crowd was probably the most into the band I've ever seen. BTW, if anyone gets or ripped the show lemme know. Apparently sound on the webcast was A+.

Quote:
1: Art Of Almost
2. I Might
3. Black Moon
4. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
5. One Wing
6. Bull Black Nova
7. One Sunday Morning
8. Impossible Germany
9. Born Alone
10. Handshake Drugs
11. Jesus, Etc.
12. Dawned On Me
13. Box Full Of Letters
14. Standing O
15. War On War
16. Shot In The Arm
17. Via Chicago
18. Whole Love
19. 36 Inches (w/ Nick Lowe)
20. Heavy Metal Drummer
21. I'm the Man Who Loves You
22. Monday
23. Outtamind Outasite

As a guy who runs hot and cold with this band, I really enjoyed this one on first run through. It wasn't a chore to listen to, which basically passed my first test. Some good moments that won't put your dinner party to sleep, and if you have one in the next week or so your friends will think you're cool for already having this album.

That is to say: it might still be dad rock but at least it's enjoyable dad rock.

Genuinely surprised by the critical shrug this is getting. I was quite apprehensive about it after WTA and SBS's lesser, at times awful moments, so this isn't exactly a fanboy thing on my part. Just a solid, pleasant record.

I like the farfisa line "I Might".

It's another solid Wilco album. It sounds like Wilco, and in my book, that's a good thing
