Wasn't really that impressed with their last one, but they have enough great singles out there to keep me hoping that this will be a return to form.
Plus, you know, Suzanna Hoffs.
*sigh*

No stars yet at AllMusic, but the fact that the album was produced by Matthew Sweet and then this statement in the review text has me really excited to hear this:
Quote:
The record brims with jangling guitars, tough lead guitar work from Vicki Peterson, rich vocal harmonies, and a layered, live sound that sounds really, really good (and almost exactly what you’d hope the band who recorded All Over the Place in 1984 would sound like 25-plus-years later)....
The combo of songs, performance, and sound means that anyone who was saddened by the glitz pop turn the band took post-All Over the Place could look at Sweetheart as the true follow-up to their debut.

Now I'm actually a bit excited about this.

Heard a review on NPR last night, as well as some clips of songs. Sounds like what I would hope for. The Debbi Petersen-sung tunes actually sounded best.

Heard the same thing on NPR. Kinda curious.

They started out as a 68 member marching band, then whittled membership down to only those who looked presentable in miniskirts. Their first ep from those early days, Sousa Me Softly, remains their most consistent and innovative, although many prefer the following long player, Goin' Down to Soweto, which reflected the band's new interest in Zulu roots music known as mbaqanga (and saw the band scaled back to a more manageable 11 members). Overshadowed commercially by the massive success of Paul Simon's Graceland, the Bangles once again changed tack, trimming down to a quartet that mastered the ineffective, superficial pop they have since became known for.

Those are the only 3 constant members. The bass chair has had a couple different folks through the years, and now it's a hired hand, I think.

This guy was looking for work, so he's with them now.

I can't see the pic in your earlier post, so that could explain my lack of comprehension.
