Downward is Heavenward is a great album. Probably top 20 of all-time for me.

I found this at Rasputin's for $0.50 still wrapped. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

blasphemy.

That is was so cheap or that I haven't opened it?

After first listen, I am not digging the HUM. It sounded pretty generic. I'll give it a proper listen with headphones soon.

It may not be your cup o' tea, but you can't accuse Hum of being generic.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sLv4oLI9l5U&feature=related

. . . and, has anyone listened to honcho overload, glifted, of centaur?

edit: oh and national skyline, they're good, too.

Glifted and Centaur, yes...

Glifted is kinda like a heavy Loveless
Centaur is Hum-lite

yeah, i felt like matt's centaur and tim's glifted were like the two elements (the melody and the underneath stuff) of hum's sound, separated. y'know? unfortunately the whole was more than the sum of its parts.

love Centaur. Love National Skyline...I keep Glifted out of respect but can't remember the last time I played it. Maybe I'll bring it in with me to work today!

that's funny because i hucked centaur and kept glifted. clearly, jeff dimpsey wins the hum diaspora lottery with national skyline.

National Skyline was clearly the best of the three remnant bands.

I'll give you this much and I say this as a huge fan: HUM could be hit/miss. The songs I like are some of my favorite songs of the 90s, but every album had its fair share of clunkers and moments of simply trying-too-hard.

I still throw Glifted on. I thought National Skyline was the Sparta from ATDI in this particular shakeout.

Fillet Show was entertaining
Electra 2000 was absolutely brilliant, and they were brilliant live on that "tour"
You'd Prefer an Astronaut was an overproduced, huge letdown and I tuned out thereafter

really pissed that they broke up honcho too because RCA insisted.

So there is a new National Skyline record being released on 2/17. Check "Revenge" and "Bloom" out on their MySpace.

I just bought the EP with Metropolis at Hum's NYE gig.

Excellent - I had heard that their EP from late '07 would be their last release, so this is very good news.

Quote:
Starting yesterday, Pop Up Records is offering a variety of pre-order packages for SONGS OF FAREWELL AND DEPARTURE: A TRIBUTE TO HUM, which will see an official release on September 6th 2011 in digital and CD format. Digital will be available from all your favorite retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, etc. while the physical copies will be sold via PopUpRecords.com and StickFigureDistro.com. Pre-Orders began yesterday, July 11th, 2011 at PopUpRecords.com so head on over to the site to check out the exclusive Hum Tribute packages. The album is available in Platinum, Gold, and Silver packages, and the standard CD order, as well as the official Hum Tribute T-Shirt!

In celebration of the pre-order, the Hum Tribute Team has released streaming audio of City of Ships' contribution “I Hate It Too” on Bandcamp and Facebook.

Didn't even realize this was out. Seems kinda weird to put out a tribute for a band that put out 2 records, but hopefully the bands involved are doing direct ports of the songs.

Tracklisting:

01 - Arctic Sleep – The Scientists
02 - (Damn) This Desert Air – The Pod
03 - Solar Powered Sun Destroyer – Stars (feat. J Robbins)
04 - Bearhead - Ms. Lazarus
05 - Anakin – I’d Like Your Hair Long
06 - Junius - Firehead
07 - Constants – If You Are To Bloom
08 - City of Ships – I Hate It Too
09 – Actors & Actresses - Aphids
10 - Digicide – Comin’ Home
11 - The Esoteric – Iron Clad Lou
12 - TENT (Kellii Scott & Eric Gorfain) - Little Dipper
13 - Stomacher – Why I Like Robins
14 - The Felix Culpa – Puppets
15 - Funeral For A Friend – Green to Me

*DIGITAL ONLY BONUS TRACK:

01 - Alpha Stasis – Scraper

Ok, I like Hum too. A tribute album, though?
