Pretty sure Gates will have a slower though more cost effective death.

Apple User Acting Like His Dad Just Died

Image
BOSTON—Calling the death a “tragic loss” and saying he was “truly devastated by the news,” self-described Apple product loyalist Eric Cavanaugh is treating the passing of the company’s former CEO Steve Jobs as if his fucking dad just died, sources confirmed Thursday. “I can’t believe it,” said Cavanaugh, 28, wearing a saddened expression that would make you think he was mourning the loss of his 61-year-old father, Jack, and not a complete goddamn stranger. “He meant a lot to me, and I’ll miss him. I think I might send an e-mail to rememberingsteve@apple.com [instead of contacting the man he hasn’t talked to in a month who helped him with his homework, paid his college tuition, and has supported him throughout his entire life, loving him unconditionally despite his myriad fuckups].” At press time, Cavanaugh reportedly needs to get his fucking priorities straight.

Wait, isn't today the 3rd day? What if Steve Jobs rises from the dead?

Can we officially deify him?

Rush Limbaugh loved Steve Jobs and Apple products.

I don't get the reverence for Apple. When I was in college in the late 90's, a big part of the reason people supported Apple was to just have an alternative to big, bad Microsoft. Now, at least in terms of their business practices, Apple is worse than Microsoft ever was. While they make some great products, their computers are way over priced. I can understand preferring Apple products to PCs. I am not claiming one is necessarily better than the other. I just don't understand why people act like it is some high and mighty organization for the betterment of the human race, when it is actually just another giant corporation that would eat your young if there was money in it.

Agreed.
Jobs was way more evil (corporate greed) than Gates. At least Gates allowed outside innovation to advance the machines their software runs on while lowering costs making computers more accessible to all people.

It's about branding.
Apple is the Cadillac to Microsoft's Ford.
They keep the price higher and keep the development internal because they want control of the brand. It's perception every bit as much as it is profit. (And, yes, the one leads to the other.)
The Brand is allmighty. And they've done a better job at branding than, arguably, anyone else in history. Hence, the cult surrounding Apple and Jobs.

There are things to criticize apple for regarding their business practices. The prices they charged is not one. They charged what people would continually happily pay.

And although anecdotal, I paid 3x more for a macbook pro than I ever have for Windows-based laptops in the past (and I've had many). I've had my Macbook pro for 5 years and the ONLY problem was that the screen stopped working. When I took it in, it was a "known defect" in the graphics card and it was replaced for free. It's never crashed. I've never gotten a virus, and it has outlasted ever PC I've ever owned. So, I'd say that them being overpriced isn't a fair assessment since in my experience they've outlasted my windows-based laptops and are now "cheaper" if you look at the life of the machine.

It was sad he passed, but I wasn't lighting candles and hanging up photos...

Got 6.5 years on my MacBook. Any issue was fixed the same day. Haters gonna hate.

As long as we're throwing out anecdotal evidence...I bought a windows laptop over 5 years ago and it is still going strong and I've never had a crash or a virus; I carry it around and pretty much treat it like crap. Thing cost me under 500 bucks and I've never had a single time I wanted it to do something that it could not.

My 3.5 year old PC laptop (first non-Apple computer I've ever owned) doesn't have sound or working USB ports, doesn't read or burn discs, overheats, clean fans or not, and won't wake up when it goes to sleep.

That being said, it was dirt cheap and did what I needed it to do while lasting about the expected amount of time, but I never really liked it like my previous Macs.

Steve Jobs has always interested the hell out of me and when I realized I'd probably have to spend the money I was saving for a Macbook Pro on a new car I even surprised myself with how upset I was.

RIP, Steve. I was honestly a little sad.
