Guess its time to fire up this machine.

My Caps made some bold moves in the off-season, and hopefully its enough for them to get out of the first round of the playoffs (yech). Vokoun pick-up is huge. I definitely think having a capable vet goalie will help this team. I liked Varly, but he frustrated me more. Having Vokoun there to mentor Neuvy and Holtby will hopefully pay dividends in April. Word is Boudreau wants to go back to the fast-paced offense, but I'll believe it when I see it. The one saving grace here, is that he's now coaching for his job, imo. Ovi's stats took a hit last season, but so did everyone else it seems. Semin needs to step up, and hopefully Mike Green reclaims his 2009/10 ways. I'd love to see another 76 pt. season.

On the other end of the spectrum, my Oilers are super young up front, but have some huge questions to answer at D and goalie. If nothing else, Hall will be interesting to watch.

Yeah the Flyers first preseason game is tonight and I'm pretty excited even if it's pretty much a B team with some promising Rookies (Schenn/Cotourier). I'm just glad the season is on the cusp of starting..Heck it was even nice to see Ottawa and Toronto play last night on the NHL network..

Your caps do have the talent, but they need to use it and bring some grit as well. I'm looking at Ovie to have a big bounce back season compared to last year. The Oilers are young but should be fun to watch with Eberle, Hall and if Nugent-Hopkins if he starts whth the big club.

Yup, Caps are playing in what will hopefully become a tradition--playing a game in Baltimore. Its unfortunate that my hometown couldn't keep around a hockey team, but we've lost more teams than Atlanta (apologies). Though, I wish it were a more local match-up like Caps/Flyers.

I don't see how Nugent-Hopkins doesn't start up there. But who knows. With as young as the team is, with a lessened expectation--you'd think he'd be right there.

D'oh!

You'd think searching for "NHL" would have brought this up. User error?

At any rate:

Jagr, tuck in your fucking jersey.

So, Jagr has quite a few teams gunning for him.

These minimalism logo posters are pretty great.

Also, Varly is actually looking pretty good. I know from experience its only time before he self-destructs or gets injured. Drink it in, Avs fans, 'cause its not gonna be long before he has a bad start or two and the KHL talk begins again.

i enjoy watching the flyers when i stumble upon them, but it's so hard to care about the regular season when it has so little to do with the post season. I think hockey has by far the most irreverent season and a fear that a hot start is almost a death wish.

Truth on that second part. Caps are undefeated, and there is already people naysaying around saying its just an invitation to a fail.

Given that the Caps are notoriously slow starters, this only bodes well.

Game vs. Detroit was incredible. Seemed like everyone got a touch.

Stars are shockingly decent so far. Doubt it will last, though.

Time for the Caps to get out of Canada.

Its really odd to see my two favorite teams as 1 & 2 in power rankings this week at espn.com.

This probably belongs in the movies thread, but it's somewhat on topic here
