A coworker brought me a hard-to-find can of double IPA, from Alchemist in Waterbury. I'd never even heard of them. Cannot wait.

Heady Topper is the best DIPA in the country, even besting Pliny. Depending on how fresh that can is, I hope you'll agree. The nose on it is astounding. I was just recently sent 8 and finished them all in 8 days. They released it for the first time in bombers last Xmas, and while I found that batch even better, the cans are so, so dank!

Ok so I will go on record as saying that I *might* agree with you. I might. That can was huge. I have never had anything with that sheer volume of flavor, period. No Tayab's indian food in London, not any other kind of beer, nothing. I had an almost clinical fascination with how strong that flavor was, and that it was something meant for human consumption. They insist that you drink it from the can - it's printed right on the lip (hell lemme upload the pics... there) so I don't have a picture of what the beer looks like.

ImageImage

The can art isn't an exaggeration. It practically exploded in my face that's what she said. I sipped it for a good 45 minutes, and had a buzz for about 4 hours. The hop flavor is the entire range, all of it. Bitter, floral, pine cone, orange peel, weed, just all of it. And all of it at 11. I really, really enjoyed this, and I can't think of anything else I've had since Goose Island's Bourbon Co Stout that made me stop what I was doing and gawk. I would have to have Pliny sitting right here next to the can and try both back and forth to say I like one more than the other, but I can't see why this wouldn't be a contender. If it isn't #1 it's #2. Sweet fucking jebus, this makes everyone else's big IPA's taste like Bass. Must find more.

You guys had this one? Not usually a huge fan of pumpkin beers, but this one was balanced pretty nicely between the sweetness and the hops.

Despite the questionable bottle art font, I have dug the Southern Tier beers I've tasted.

Southern Tier always lands in solid "B" territory for me. Some of the big singles show a lot of promise but then they have some duds and boring 12oz'ers. Haven't had that one yet, but so far I'm trying just about every damned pumpkin thing I can find so eventually I'm sure I will.

No report from the beer fest from Derris? Damn, I bet he's still hurting.

Ky, ride up to that brewery and grab some. And then send us a couple!

The guy up at Total Wine sold me on this yesterday. Perhaps I am just not a strong ale fan, I don't know, and I think this is my first venture into UK territory at all, but I did not like this in any way. Everything just tasted burnt and way too much alcohol taste for my liking. Seriously regret what I paid for this. Not my thing at all.

This on the other hand, I am liking a lot. Kind of sweet but not overly so. Was expecting it to be slightly thicker than it is for some reason, I think that is my only disappointment. Definitely prefer it to any of the pumpkins I have tried. Any other sweet potato or yam beers out there worth trying?

The Bruery is one of the best. Those guys have strong, unique recipes.

Stay away from Uinta's Punk'n sixpack beer. More on that later.

On that note:

The Bruery Wrote:
Our infamous Black Tuesday is an imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for over a year. Rich caramel, toasted malt, vanilla, burnt wood and anise are just a few of the many flavors in this rich, decadent imperial stout.

As usual, we will be holding a small release party for Black Tuesday on the evening of the final Tuesday of October, 10/25. This year, in order to accommodate a few more people, we will be holding two sessions and we will be making half of the tickets to each session available to our fans who are not in the Reserve Society. This means there will be 40 tickets available to each session available to the general public.

On top of the party, each ticket sale includes the price for 3 bottles of Black Tuesday.

-Tickets will be onsale through http://bt.thebruery.com
-Tickets go on sale at 10am next Thursday, 9/15.
-Sessions are from 5-7pm and from 8-10pm.
-Tickets cost $120 with a 2 ticket maximum.
-Each ticket includes 3 bottles of Black Tuesday (there is no option for a cheaper ticket that don't include beer)
-Each guest will receive beer tasting tickets (including tastings of draft Black Tuesday and any variations of Black Tuesday that may make their way to the menu that night).
-We will also be including food from The Lime Truck.

A limited amount of Designated Driver tickets will be available for $10 and include only food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Further, we will be selling Black Tuesday to the general public through our website on the morning of 10/25 - exact details will come in October.

I emailed the Alchemist to see where else they're for sale. If I can get a few four packs, a few of you should expect a package.

The beauty of a fest like that is that if you really indulge in everything, you're outro by dinner time. Such was the case with this. I was asleep by the 2nd half of the UGA game.

The really tough part was that I've been involved with this work event since Sunday afternoon and just got done last night.

I'll post some thoughts when I can.

My friend Lila's tattoo shop is up in Barre. Maybe I should grab a bunch next time I go up there.

They will be distributing soon... Boston is the biggest market I've heard. Their brewpub was devastated in the hurricane which is understandably delaying their growth. I was there in June and it was terrific and their APA, Holy Cow, is so fucking good. They just released a Belgian Stout and DIPA in bottles, the only two tanks to survive the flood, to help fund the renovations. Both sold out quickly.

1.5 hours further north. VT is long and skinny. But we do need to go see them quick before she pops out the next critter.

So I've made it through most of this order and thought I'd post some quick thoughts in bold

billy g Wrote:
Just ordered:
2 2010 Goose Island "Matilda" Belgian Style Ale, Illinois 12oz @ $3.49 Really enjoyed this one. Everything Derris/Squirg said
2 Czechvar Premium Czech Lager 12oz @ $1.49 What a lager should be. I bought another sixer of this
1 Aecht Schlenkerla "Oak Smoke" Rauchbier, Germany 500 ml @ $5.99 First Rauchbier I've tried. Interesting for sure but not really my thing and I have no basis to compare to other Rauchbiers
1 Great Divide Brewing "Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti" Imperial Stout, Colorado 22oz @ $10.99 loved this.
1 Hair of the Dog "Blue Dot" DIPA, Oregon 22oz @ $7.49 Really impressed by this. Best DIPA I've had that wasn't from Russian River
1 Oy Sinebrychoff Ab "Sinebrychoff" Baltic Porter, Finland 11.2 oz @ $3.99 Pretty good but not really any better than cheaper porters like Deschutes
2 Reissdorf Kölsch 500ml @ $4.99 Liked this. Would drink again
1 Russian River Brewing "Blind Pig" IPA 500ml @ $4.30turned out to be out of stock but I've since tracked it down. Agree with Duckyboy - its even better than Pliny.
2 Victory Brewing "Prima Pils" Pilsner, Pennsylvania 22oz @ $3.49 pretty good pilsner. right up there with Scrimshaw

Hey Pro,

How was this? And do you know if it's made with that poop coffee? I ask because Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Stout apparently is...

K&L Wrote:
Mikkeller "Beer Geek Brunch" (Weasel) Imperial Oatmeal Stout 500ml (4 bottle limit) 15.99

This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world's most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for an intense and expensive coffee. The exceedingly rare civet coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma, both of which are evident in this rediculously good beer! Ingredients: Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee. 10.9% abv

Last night I finally drank the Abt12 I've been saving since late May. It was good, but for my money, Rocherfort 10 still beats it in the Quadrupel category.
