I mean, keep your sacred cows.

This is the essence.

THE ESSENCE.

Actually, the only thing wrong with Rip this Joint is how soon it fades out... it should go on for 7 minutes.

I don't know about it being the BEST song on Exile, but I can get behind it being the ESSENCE.

I get where you're coming from, Derris.

Hearing Phish do Exile a couple years ago gave me a new appreciation for "Ventilator Blues" and "I Just Wanna See His Face".

Edit: Also "Let It Loose": Horns + Sharon Jones = Holy fucking awesome.

I just sent Exile to someone who hadn't heard a note of it before. I'm awaiting her feedback.
Also I can get behind the essence. Now I have to play this and that Dead show today.

Took me a moment to process this idea, but I can get behind it. It's the song that's most comfortable with itself, and never even thinks about branching off and aiming for some higher, loftier territory.

That said, when I'm out and about in the field and run into "Loving Cup" playing on some random jukebox/radio/whathaveyou... that's some unexpected and hard to match goodness right there.

Derris - drinking early on a Friday night.

Picking one song as the best on Exile is like picking which one of you dinks I hate the most.

Can't wait for this Some Girls redux to come out. BLACK GIRLS JUST WANNA GET FUCKED ALL NIGHT I DON'T HAVE THE MUCH JAM

This thread is a perfect example of why Derris needs a Facebook acct. Can't you picture your feed clogged by him posting about 58 YouTube clips straight out of Mong City.

I was in a bar last night that seemed to be playing random Stones songs (not all of which were "best of" material, so I don't think they were playing a comp). Every time one would come on, I'd think "this is my favorite Stones songs." "Jigsaw Puzzle", "Gimme Shelter", it didn't matter. I actually don't think they played anything from Exile, but, basically, GGGar is right, you can't eat just one.

Basically, the best Stones song is the one that's playing right now. Except when they played "Miss You".

Skip that song, usually.

I keep singing "turd on the run" to the tune of "band on the run"

Neither the best nor the essence. I don't skip but it's one of the weaker tracks.
