And, if you're going to count that Chris Bell record, than you should count this one, too:

I'm pretty sure stuff from that was released in some form or another at some point before the Rykodisc version.

That Chris Bell was never released. But, I get where you're going.

Yeah, there were other versions of those songs released before, but this was the first "official" release of the record... with a tracklist and sequencing that reflected the original intent.

I've been playing the hell out of Down Colorful Hill the last month, lovely stuff.

My pick would be the mighty Mr Rep who also has production credits (lovingly fucked with) on GBV's Propeller. He also lovingly fucked with bands such as Times New Viking (Dig Yourself, Busy Making Love & War), TJSA (Bait & Switch), Yips, Strapping Fieldhands.

Anyway, this was released in '92 on Siltbreeze and this is a collection of songs that were recorded from 1974-92. He is my hero.

peter kember aka sonic boom and founding member of Spacemen 3. this album is every bit as good as jason pierce's effort from this year.

for me, they never lived up to the potential of that first ep. still, this one had some fine singles on it, plus they will always have a place in my heart for being my first real "indie" show, and first visit to the 9:30 club.

not my favorite nick cave, but still good.

i'm not the biggest blues fan, but this guy i can get behind. fans of the black keys who haven't heard Junior Kimbrough before would do well to check him out.

Is this really as good as AllMusic makes it sound (even though they only gave it three stars). How did I miss this the first time around? I've heard tons of stuff that fits this description and tons of Caroline releases, but never this. Hmmm...

if you're around my age (i think you are) and were into this kind of music at the time, you most certainly heard "Winona" at some point?

it's nothing groundbreaking for the genre...but i think it stands the test of time.

I really latched on to this one, and it's always been my favourite of theirs.

I really like "Winona" but it is the best track. Second half of the album kind of peters out.
