my top 3 have been mentioned: Abyss, Yeti and Ten Fidy...probably in that order.

not a stout, but i still recommend that Deschutes Black Butte XXIII if you can find it. i grabbed a couple more for when the weather turns.

i'm hoping to find some new-to-me items when i'm back in Virginia over Thanksgiving. y'all have certainly piqued my interest on this Founders brewery.

oh, speaking of california beer, anyone have an opinion of Firestone Walker? i'm seeing them starting to pop up a lot, and actually their stout seems to be highly regarded.

I've only had Firestone Walker's Double Jack (their imperial ipa) and it was quite good. Solid B+ range. I definitely want to try some of their other beers.

Parabola is fucking awesome but probably gone from shelves at this point. There may be some in the back of some bottle shops if you ask nicely. Abacus, their barrel-aged Barleywine is even better and probably easier to find... maybe. Double Jack is fantastic when fresh... be sure to check that bottle date.

Ok...i figured out the issue. I'm looking at the Bourbon Barrel Aged Santa's Little Helper so I guess it makes sense that it would be more. My usual wine/beer shop doesn't have the regular one in right now but I'd think i could probably find it if I look elsewhere.

I haven't had it (yet), but what about North Coast Old Rasputin, BG? It's readily available here so I can only imagine that to be the case in CA.

Makes sense. That's probably last years BA Santa's which was supposedly really nice after the previous years was flat. Now that I think about it, this years Santa's may not be out yet.

Billy I like the Goose Island BC and the Stone Russian Imperial the best, I think.

That's a good idea. I should look for that. I'm a fan of North Coast but don't think I've tried the Old Rasputin yet.

Victory Brewing "Whirlwind Wit" Wheat Beer, Pennsylvania 12oz 1@$1.79
Hair of the Dog "Adam" Hearty Old World Ale, Oregon 12oz 1@$5.49 $5.49
Hair of the Dog "Fred" Golden Special Ale, Oregon 12oz 1@$5.49 $5.49
Allagash "Black" Belgian Style Stout, Maine 750ml 1@$9.99 $9.99
Oskar Blues "Ten Fidy" Russian Imperial Stout, Colorado 12oz 1@$3.49 $3.49
Uncommon Brewers "Siamese Twin" Triple Brewed With Spices, California 16oz cans 1@$0.49 $0.49

I had a Hair of the Dog "Blue Dot" DIPA recently and was very impressed with it so I just bought one of everything else I could find by them. Glad to hear that the Ninkasi was a good choice.

That last one sounded pretty interesting:

K&L Wrote:
If you like Russian Imperial Stouts and the name Albert Le Coq doesn't sound familiar to you, it should. The style and the name are essentially synonymous, since legend has it that the Belgian Le Coq began was invited to Tsarist Russia to brew the beer there to avoid import tarrifs. In 1912, Le Coq released the first Imperial Extra Double Stout from his brewery in Tartu. But the Russian Revolution and World War brought it all to an end. This beer adheres to the original recipe, paying hommage to the father of Imperial Extra Double Stout and a beer hero in our hearts.

I'm a fan of the Old Rasputin and the Stone Imperial but honestly they're special occasion beers IMO. They're huge much like many of those big barrel aged beers. Don't get me wrong, they're good as hell but for regular stout drinking I like any of these:

Bell's Kalamazoo
Bell's Double Cream

Also, really enjoy milk/sweet stouts like Left Hand's Milk Stout or Young's Double Chocolate.

I like Duck Rabbit's Milk Stout but you can't get that out there.

My local wine store, K&L Wines, which while known for their wine (Wall Street Journal calls them one of the best wine stores in the country) also carry craft beer and liquor. They have one S. CA store and several up in the Bay area. I can order online anything from anything they have in stock at any of their locations and they'll transfer product from one store to another for free.

You can order and have it shipped if GA is a state that they can legally ship to but I'm not sure it's all that worth it although they do carry Russian River.

If you care to recommend anything, here's their beer selection:

Unfortunately, I've never seen any of Bell's beers out here but I haven't been looking for that long.

AAAAHHHH I love those guys. Their Winter Solstice is far and away the best 6 pack stout I have ever had. Silky is a great word for their stouts, that's perfect.

I'd never heard of or seen Forst (it's an Italian brewery), so I tried this Sixtus doppelbock at a bar last night. The taste had a food-like quality to it. That's the only way I know how to explain it. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Boxcar is very balanced. I'm not a fan of overwhelming "pumpkin" beers, and this wasn't and the porter was solid

My local spot is all but cleared of any and all Pumpkin ales at this point. I went last weekend to grab the Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin and he said "we sold out of that 4 weeks ago". I picked up that Hoppin Frog last weekend but it was his last case.

They're stocking the Winter Warmers already. I really should make myself a seasonal release schedule.

No doubt. I just lucked into some Punkin Ale when it hit the stores. They had already sold 10 cases, and had 4 left. After that all bets were off. My saving grace has been the above beer, which has sold out in a lot of places, but is still readily available at bars on draught.

I made the switch last night at the store, moved on from pumkin beers to stouts. I'll do that for a week or two until the winter beers come out. Got some of the special sam adams 4 pack stuff among others... SURELY the big hairy stout one won't taste just like all their other beer. Excited about the Boulevard DIPA I snagged too.

Last year, as they started rolling out the spring stuff, I went to check a local liquor stores discount section and they had cases of the Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin for around $24. I bought one but I really should've stocked up on more.

I picked up that Sierra Nevada Estate, Boulevard Nommo Dubbel and this...
