Girls and Kurt Vile are two of my favorites this year as well. I liked the first Girls, but this one is more consistently interesting with each song having a new vibe and feel, from tight zeppelin riffs to dreamy 50s girl group doo wop. And it keeps growing on me.

I just can't hear that kurt vile album enough. I can play it 3 times in a row, 7 days a week, and only want to hear it more. I started out thinking "hmmmmm, this is kinda boring...", and all of a sudden my opinion flipped to "oh my god, this is BRILLIANT!" Bloody fantastic record from front to back.

it grew on me as well.

nicolas jaar - space is only noise
instra:mental - resolution 653
big krit - return of 4eva

in that order. I could see Joe Henry bumping The Booze down with more listens though.

My wife is really digging it, too.

Just bought that Cults album. Seems like it might be my kinda thing, so maybe it'll sneak in there.

I've been getting much worse about paying attention to what year things come out, and especially so now that I've ditched the iPod and don't listen on anything that sorts all that year stuff out. But, I can at least name three that I know I dig from this year.

Off!: The First Four EPs - OK, the vinyl version came out in December of last year, but the CD version is 2011. Great return to form from Keith Morris. He's back to pretty much blow the shit out of any younger punk front men hanging around. I am also really happy to see Pettibon in the fold for the artwork.

The Cults: S/T - Just a really fun breezy album with that big 60s girl group influence that pretty much always sucks me in.

Nicholas Jaar: Space is Only Noise - I'm always on the lookout for good ambient electronic stuff these days and this one fits the bill nicely.

On another day I could have easily made different selections, like records from Zomes, Fujiya and Miyagi, Teenage Panzerkorps, Mind Spiders, Mountains, Roy Ellis or something else I'm forgetting off hand.

This St. Vincent album is getting better with each listen. It may be time to edit.

Only heard about 35 new albums this year and some of those haven't had as many listens as I'd like. Probably pick up more in the New Year.

Black Lips - Arabia Mountain
P. J. Harvey - Let England Shake
Stephen Malkmus - Mirror Traffic

All old faithfuls, sorry.

Just picked up the new Wilco and am waiting for that Cults album to arrive in my mailbox.
The Wilco, on first listen in less than ideal environs, sounded good, but not like it would challenge for a top 3 spot.

What Girls track sounds like dreamy 50s girl group doo wop?
