Ah. I thought you meant he invited the kids to show up at his house.

That's how I read it as well.

Thanks for the link, FR. No surprise and probably his best-case scenario at this point.

JoePa's handlers finally got their heads out of their asses and Wrote:

"I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.

I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.

That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can.

This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.

My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this University."

Done more = to keep the Sandusky bum-bum train rolling?

Now, I have Tom Green's novelty "hit" from summer '99 stuck in my head. With its prescient lyric: "my bum is on the man/ my bum is on the man/ isn't it fun to put your bum on the man?". Thanks a lot.

I really hope this doesn't sully his career. While I think it's been loooong overdue, I'm glad he's stepping down, but hate that it's being surrounding by this disgusting scandal.

It's great that he's retiring and all, but I think they should still fire him. Like how can you take the field booth this Saturday and feel good about it?

If he's a tenth of the man Penn State Nation made him out to be, he doesn't. Maybe it's a sense of obligation to the current staff and players (or his ego). Hell, maybe he's getting a cut of the boosted ticket prices.

I don't see how the program can fire the coach when their record is 8-1. There is some serious money to be made here.

It's mighty white of Paterno to think of the children all of a sudden, and to tell the Board of Trustees to go deal with those other guys.

Did anyone else see on deadspin the link to the guy on ebay selling Sandusky's championship ring?

First, who would want it? Second, that's pretty gross to cash in on this scandal, considering what happened.

i'm not going to pretend like i'm defending anyone, but i do find it funny that joepa's haters have labelled him a figurehead for decades but now he's suddenly the most powerful person in the state of pennsylvania.

Joe Pa won't be coaching against the Huskers

I always thought the man would die on the sideline, but am not surprised he didn't survive the week as head coach of Penn State.

A lawyer could make an interesting case that, as a public employee, Paterno was denied his constitutional due process rights.

I'm glad someone finally did the right thing in all of this and cleaned house, including the piece of shit Paterno.

And to set the record straight, I never had anything against him until I learned about his lack of action after he learned kids got raped. The fact that people are defending him and even protesting at this point blows my mind.
