Finally watched this last night.

What the hell do they think they're doing with this show.

It should be on The CW.

Sorry, SPOLIERS BELOW...

I at least thought they were going to use the CDC to explain the cause the zombie outbreak. Instead, they just gave us a nicely cliched "war room" big screen CG display explanation of what happens when someone turns into a zombie. Oh, they die and then they come back to life? And they're not really their former selves/have no higher brain functions? Who knew! Thanks, Walking Dead, for clearing that up for the perpetually clueless characters and the folks at home.

For the first time since the pilot, however, I felt like I really sympathized with the characters' reactions. "Fuck, why did we even come here? What a waste of time!" Right there with you.

And of course it had six million viewers. It's a total success. I guess maybe they know what they're doing after all. Unless of course all six million of those people threw up their hands and said "WTF" at the end of that finale, and most of them don't tune back in for Season 2. Here's hoping that firing the writers rumor was true, but it looks like they'll all probably be patting themselves on the back for this rousing "success" and gearing up for more of the same.

The Fact and Fiction of Walking Dead's "Fired" writers: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/20 ... fired.html

Quote:
To hear Walking Dead exec producers Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman tell it, the original Deadline report about mass firings on the show was overblown. "It's completely inaccurate," Hurd told EW; Kirkman indicated to TV Guide that Eglee, an executive producer for The Shield, Dexter, and Dark Angel, "didn't want to be second-in-command on a show when he's used to being a top dog" and had decided to "go off and do something else." On that latter point, Vulture can report that Kirkman was right: Sources tell us Eglee is talking to FX and Sony Pictures Television about becoming a writer and exec producer of Powers, a long-in-the-works dramatization of the comic-book series of the same name about homicide detectives who investigate cases linked to folks with extraordinary abilities. FX execs are said to be very high on Powers (a pilot order seems quite likely), and thanks to his Shield work, Eglee is someone the network and studio know quite well.

Quote:
So are Hurd and Kirkman 100 percent correct when they pooh-pooh the Deadline report? Maybe not: While it's clear Eglee has been mulling life after Dead for a while, Vulture has also talked to people close to the show who've confirmed that several of the writers on the small staff (about a half-dozen scribes) very much wanted to remain full-time for season two. "It's a huge hit show. Who would walk away from that?" an insider told us.

assuming Powers ever gets made, I feel like that could be another breakout hit. As long as the production values are there and Bendis (who writes dialogue as well as anyone) has an iota of oversight on the scripts, I think it could be huge.

but then again, it still has superheroes in it, and I'm betting the success of that dumb NBC show could dictate how much promo/interest it generates.

Yeah, Powers has the potential to be a really good show. And I think I would be a lot more comfortable with it departing from the book than I have been with Walking Dead. Powers has generally more of an episodic feel, and there's less need for it to go somewhere.

at the very least, at least the show would probably have a degree of regularity...

so there was actually NO discussion about this season. I thought last night's episode was the best. The characters are getting more complex, but the acting is still suspect with some of them.

yes. last night's episode was great. but they are still pushing mounds of garbage at viewers. it's so frustrating because they get some things so right and never capitalize.

i haven't caught up on the last two episodes but this season has been alright so far. the episode with daryl being a badass was the best so far i think. i can't believe they're dragging out finding sophia though.

So I haven't watched this season at all, but it looks like I'm going to have to now.

A buddy of mine since college (who also works with me now) got called in to be a zombie on the show. They want super skinny people to play zombies so they can make them up to be all emaciated, and this dude is definitely super skinny. Like rivaling Bradford Cox. Anyway, for a while it looked like they weren't going to call him in and we were all really disappointed and "boycotting the show" (really most of us just had no interest after last season), and then out of the blue he gets called in for a day of shooting earlier this month.

He brought back a picture of what he looked like as a zombie that was taken on his phone (he was hardly recognizable), and he told us about the experience and what he had to do. I think he was just part of a group of zombies that were eating a corpse. He said he had to chew on a combination of ham and fake blood which he was told not to swallow, supposedly due to there being a lot of soap in the fake blood. Anyway, he's a pretty grounded, modest guy, and he knew there was a good chance his scene might not even make it into the final cut. He did know that it was for the final episode of this season, and so I'd planned to at least watch that one so I could try to spot him.

Well, the week prior to Thanksgiving he got called back in for a full week of shooting. I finally got to ask him about yesterday, and he said he was made up as three different zombies (one of which took two hours in a make-up chair to put on and take off) and that for one of them he got to kill one of the main characters.

So yeah, looks like I have to watch this now.

This. In the 3 episodes leading up to that last one (mid-season finale? WTF?) FemDerris would constantly be saying "Jesus. Nothing fucking good ever happens on this show". It's not so much that that bothers me but that fact that they just drag the monotony out so damn much. Agree with shiv about the search for Sophia.

I guess the last scene from Sunday wouldn't have had as much an impact I suppose if they didn't drag it out.

Still, I fould myself about ready to throw in the towel several times.

I'm also ready for Dale to die a horrible death.

the mid-season finale thing is just so that they can show it in two sweeps months, right? i've been under the impression that this is the most-watched show on amc.

It makes sense, really. Lowest common denominator. Dumb zombie show wins.

I thought the "mid-season finale" was pretty good. I know nothing of the story besides what's shown on tv so I am luck enough to not have a lot of preconceived notions about what the story should be and how it should be told. I think it is slow. I laugh regularly at Radcliffe's one line summations because they're pretty accurate. Though, I still enjoy the show.

I still haven't watched a single second of this season.

I guess I'll just wait and watch the season finale so I can see my friend eat somebody.
