I'll go with that. Why do I see so many "thickfreakness" used? Btw, from interviews, I like these guys. I guess I always thought they get too samey sounding, but I'll take your lede and go.

Rubber Factory is great, and probably the most accessible behind Brothers imo.

So no comments on the new album? It's out there if you want it.

They took the "Howlin for You" arena rock formula and repeated it for most of the songs. I give it a 5 out of 10. I will not buy.
It should have just been a 7" for Lonely Boy.

the piece that patrick's ex-wife wrote about him completely squashed any desire i had to look at them as human beings instead of rock stars. not that there was anything unexpected or egregious in it, but it was just another example of needing to separate music you like from the people who make it.

Never heard about that article. Where was it published, would be interested in reading it.

I like Attack & Release and Brothers.
Most of the early stuff is great but I think they found their voice on those two records.

these really are the two best, though thickfreakness will probably always be my favorite

i just read it, and she actually comes off looking MUCH worse than him - and she's the one who wrote the article

man, she does NOT like dan, either

Probably trying to get a little indie rock Nora Ephron thing going.

To say that is to imply her one indiscretion trumps the drummer's roadwhoring while on tour.

Additionally, it would seem the divorce was as much a factor of attempting to consolidate the band's rapidly increasing earnings unto the band only, thus why his mother was advising him on a quickly executed separation.

So -- advantage, Grollmus.

(Also, this story is indicative of the wisdom of Derek Jeter: if you want to be a celebrity serial monogamist &/or philanderer & not take shit for it, don't go the marriage route.)

The new album's not bad, not as good as Brothers but sounds decent just because there hasn't been much good straight ahead rock coming out lately that I've heard and liked too much.

The article was just more boring than anything else with the girl coming across pretty melodramatic. Maybe I missed something but nothing in that article made me really feel one way or the other about the guys in the band. Typical and maybe even a bit more boring than many divorce stories.

re: the article
Having now read it in two sittings (half at work, and half at home), I can say that she probably brought a lot of baggage to the relationship as well. That's not absolving Patrick from anything he did or has done. Pretty much, this was published because she's writing about someone of interest. Its time to walk away, and let bygones be bygones. It was a bad marriage from the start from the sounds of it. They were/are probably both dysfunctional. The thing I do feel for her, is being left alone for months at a time so young in a marriage has to be hard. Can't imagine how that would feel. Probably need a strong support network around you, and from the sounds of it, she reached for the bottle as opposed to friends. Bummer.

I do want to hear the new record, will probably buy it blind because I've got almost every other thing they've done. Z, I agree though, its a lot better when you separate the music from the musician as a person.

I thought the new one was all right. Worth another listen, but it will be begrudgingly.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this album sucks. It's a big commercial turd.

seeing that they are now playing hockey rinks, I was waiting for this post. I haven't followed their career at all, but what little I do know about them does not sound like something that could ever make it to a hockey rink.

well, they're just any other band now with 4 people. they were on snl last night and it's basically like they're redoing old songs with more accompaniment.

I always felt like this, but I rocked Brothers in the office on Friday and it was all kinds of bad ass.

I want to hear this because I'm always interested in Danger Mouse - even when I don't really care about the project - cos we knew that dude waaaay back when in the ATH.

And cats hating it probably means I'll love it ;)
