This is, of course, assuming you don't have to drive or operate heavy machinery on the job. How of many of you might have the odd pint while going through emails?

I chose never because I would never drink and teach. But, boy oh boy, when I get home....

Yeah, I tend to think of "work" as your generic desk job. Outside of that, drinking either doesn't make sense/is dangerous or is borderline essential.

I voted "after 5" with desk jobs in mind.

I usually don't have to mix the two anymore, but when I do work during the occasional evening, 100% I've got wine at my side.

They're often one and the same for me. I voted for the noon option. I'll have a beer or 3 with lunch every now and again, and in the next two weeks, I fully anticipate a few full on open house style early afternoon drinking sessions.

It depends on the job of course...I've had beer at lunch at previous jobs. At my current job, I would wait till after work for sure.

Crack one when I get home. If you can't wait until after work, its either a problem, or you need to get a new job.

If I'm drinking beer at work, it's just going to take me longer to get home, which is where I would rather be enjoying my beer.

I voted never.

Can't drink on my job---or I should say, should't drink on my job. The only guy I personally know that drank on my job was fired (by me) and is now unemployable and you can find out why on http://www.dopl.gov

It clearly depends on the nature of your occupation. If you're Don Draper or Senator Loogar, by all means, a three-martini lunch is expected. Hell, if I had their jobs, I'd be bellied up to the bar with them.

I work in a very different environment for sure. Most days I would say never, but there is generally something on hand in the event our work leads to something to celebrate at any given time. And on days where we have training after shift (standard 12 hour shifts) we will usually have a couple of drinks during training.

I am an alcoholic and drug addict. I used to get loaded at work and I worked as a very "respectable" position ... astonishing the shit I did. No, all the answers were correct for me; but then again I wound up in rehab 8-9 times.

It's rare for me to have a drink on the clock at my current job. I've worked other jobs where it was more part of the workplace culture and I was fine with that. But nowadays, it's 5:00 before I get started.

It's stuff like this, combined with both your posting in the Tebow thread and the entire Acid Grandfather aesthetic that makes me want to read your biography.

I have had a beer at some "going away" lunches, probably 3 times total in 5 years here. Also 3 or 4 times at "going away" parties close to work at 6pm, but that wasn't on the clock. Otherwise never, unless I'm working from home. In that case, it's no pants and pretty much one beer an hour from noon on.

I've had drinks/been drunk at work before but it's usually only during the holidays when some other people are drinking as well. Usually I wait til I get home.

As soon as the new fridge is delivered and I can get some ice made (no ice maker so I don't need to run a batch and throw it away) I'm gonna drink teh fuh out of some damn ol Johnny Drum bourbon. (Or as I now call it "Pedro" after the immortal Pedro Borbon)

not allowed to drink at my previous job or my past job. no alcohol during work hours period.

will crack open a bottle of wine at home from time to time for dinner, however.

My drinking curbed a lot watching the ex become a full blown alchoholic.

I rarely get tipsy now. I'd never drink on the clock, and i wasn't much for drinking on a gig either.

But I do go have a drink after work, usually at home, or with dinner, but it's usually only one or two.

at previous job i was required to drink a few days out of the week. it was cool at first but wore off really quick...especially having to bike home (bout 10 miles) after an afternoon of happy hour
now i do not drink at work, unless working from the home into the wee hours.

we have always a couple of beers in the office kitchen and I'm not sure when people drink it. maybe Friday at late afternoon. I usually leave office before the big parties start.

I'd say 50% of business lunches involve at least a drink or some wine. I usually wait until someone else orders before I join in but if anyone else is drinking, I usually have one too which probably happened three times in the last week.

It would be pretty rare these days for me to have a drink IN the office though. When I was younger though, I'd go to a cocktail party/reception/fundraiser and leave with my drink and continue working/drinking back at my desk.

Never, it was forbidden or at least exceedingly risky when I worked in the public sector, and I don't have time to do it on the clock now.
I've got out of work early and have had a drink before 5:00pm on several occasions, and would certainly do so during my job if it was considered legit.
