Good to know. I liked Peeper a lot.

Huh. Well at least it's a somewhat small bottle, I guess.

I fully expect to spend this evening drinking copious amount of shitty beer. I will begin post-soccer with several pitchers of something disgusting, likely Busch as it's a buck a pitcher cheaper than Budweiser. If some fancy pants from the team runs for a pitcher, we will end up with some Bud mixed in. We will not differentiate and top off several glasses of Bush with Bud and Bud with Busch. This will not matter to anyone but Mr Fancy Pants at whom we will all laugh. From there I'll have to decide if I want High Life for a buck and a half or just go with cans of Olympia for a dollar while I loom at the corner of the bar staring lecherously at a host of hard-drinking ladies young enough to be my daughters until some friend drags me away to shoot pool until 3 in the morning. The hangover is expected to be severe.

Yeah, it was just pure char and watery to boot. I had it about a month ago at Darkness Day and ended up pouring out my sample after a few sips. It gets decent reviews so maybe I had a bad bottle or it was a little too old (received it in March)? Still, Lunch IPA is incredible. Not sure if that's a year-round beer for them but when it's fresh, oooh baby.

I'm enjoying a bomber of 2009 Goose Island Christmas Ale tonight. I tried the Silly Enghien Noël Triple Blonde last night before attending a home brewer party. The craft beer bar I frequent is tapping a series of Belgium Holiday beers each week this month, and this was the first one to be tapped.
I didn't drink anything special over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, most of the beers I consumed were mediocre Trader Joe's beer

Victory "Twelve" Quad: This was our "win, lose or draw" beer for the UGA-LSU tilt. It ended up being a celebration of the season and the medicine to drown the sorrows of a second half beating the likes of which I will not soon forget. Very sweet (like, over the top dessert at a fancy restaurant sweet) this was really quite delicious. Split the bottle with two other people and no one thought it tasted boozy despite the 12% ABV. Not something I'd buy all the time, but I was curious how Victory did with their specialty stuff and this held its own.

I haven't had that 12 in forever. I seem to recall liking it a lot.

I'm going to a tapping party for the newest brewery in Lincoln tomorrow night. It is called Blue Blood Brewing Co. and was started by some former cops/ local homebrewers.
I'm also an official member of Lincoln Lager Home Brew club and going on a Beer Bus tour to Lawrence, KS in February with the group.

Saw it but didn't pull the trigger. (I was shopping for something strangers might like.)

Allagash - Tripel
Image
Someone brought it over and split it. I've had it before but it was nice to revisit. Allagash does a really good job balancing the buttery/creamy side with the grapefruit/booze flavors. Just lovely.

Boulevard - Long Strange Tripel
Image
At the risk of repeating myself, this was just great. It's mostly authentic, but with a little more complexity and width than most "real" tripels. 85% high-grade tripel, 15% unique goodness (in my estimation). A-

Boulevard - Dark Truth Stout
Image
A 4 pack of 12 ounce bottles, content at 9.7%. This is silky and smooth, less char/wood/hops character than say Goose's Burb Co or anything Breakfast from Founders. If you like big malt and big booze content, but you want something less "eventful" than the Big Boys then this would be ideal. I prefer Goose and the Breakfast line, but these are certainly top-tier all the same. A

Boulevard - Harvest Dance (Wheat Wine Style Ale)
ImageImage
So if you're looking for a big bottle of something special, you're burned out on belgians and stouts and double IPA's, then grab one of these. Think of it as imperial wood aged wheat beer. It's spicey, it's chewy, it has a pleasant hop back end, and it's loaded for bear. Maybe most importantly, it doesn't taste like anything else. A-

I gave that Allagash as a "congratulations on dat baby" gift to a buddy who sort of dabbles in liking good beer--he was really impressed and sent me a nice Facebook message about it.

My other new (to me) one from this past weekend:

North Coast "Old Rasputin" Imperial Stout For whatever reason, the first one I had on Friday didn't knock me out; maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but it struck me as sort of dry and missing that "something" that makes a great stout. Fast forward to Sunday, I had another (and then another) and I took my time and really feel like I got the full picture. Delicious. In the upper tier of Imperial Stouts I've tried--good job by you there, North Coast.

i wasn't overly impressed with the Winter White, but then again i'm not a huge fan of wheat's anyways.

Picked this up for FemDerris for tailgating last weekend and felt sort of the same way. Then again, there was too much going on to really appreciate it. I had a couple while cooking dinner last night and really enjoyed it. As Cap'n is wont to say, it isn't an experience beer but it was flavorful and a nice, light option among the season of stouts. Probably even a good entry for someone getting into craft beer and a good choice to take to a Christmas party where the taste of drinkers is unknown.

Also, my local spot has restocked the Founders Breakfast Stout so I stocked up with a couple 4 packs.

oh, speaking of california beer, anyone have an opinion of Firestone Walker? i'm seeing them starting to pop up a lot, and actually their stout seems to be highly regarded.

I had one of their Velvet Merlin Oatmeal stouts last night. It was certainly respectable for the price ($1.50 for a 12 oz bottle) but didn't blow me away by any stretch. Not sure I'd seek it out again but I'd gladly drink it if anyone offered me one.

Yeah me too. I saw it by the six. I grabbed it and thought about buying it but the packaging gave very little information on what it was made from and was going to taste like so I put it back on the shelf.

Pretty much exact same thing happened to me--I was also trying to get out the door with less beer instead of more...

I'm going to a tapping party for this beer tonight. It will be the first time this beer is on tap in the state of Nebraska

I picked up that Otto a while back but decided to let it cellar for a while before drinking...

Speaking of cellaring, I popped into a store sorta near my house that I've never been in before; turns out its run by a guy who used to run another store in town who has generally good taste. He has a pretty decent selection of most of the expected good stuff but I happened on something a little weird: several 4 packs of North Coast Old Stock Ale...from 2009.

Also picked up a four pack of that Brooklyn Double Choc Stout that estone was raving about. (side note: $6.99 for a four pack of 10.1% stout is a good fucking deal).

I was given a bottle of this for my birthday this year.

http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/hoppin-fro ... her/65881/

It had been in the cellar at my friends house for about two years so it was aged as well. It was fantastic. My friend is attempting to get them to distribute here soon. It could be a damn fine year for beer here in Nebraska.

The Gruit I had from Modern Monks here in Lincoln on Monday Night was outstanding as well.

Awesome beer and I hope it stays as a seasonal from here on out. Way better than Brown Shugga. I love when the seasonal DIPAs start showing up!
