3. In general, the kind of football played in the SEC isn't really entertaining, if you like the 21st century.

Or the NFL (its closest comparison)

And I'm not sure pointing out the ignorance of others can be considered defensive.

I'd take Aaron Rogers, Drew Brees, and that QB in New England that I hate style football over Tebow/or Lombardo smash mouth. So I think, again, you've created a straw man to burn and defend.

Most teams in the SEC run the spread or a pro style offense; this notion of "three yards and a cloud of dust" being the predominant offensive philosophy in the SEC hasn't been true since the early 90's.

It was the defenses I was referring to bearing a stronger resemblance to the NFL anyway. (strike 2)

At any rate, this is a pretty nice longform read on Les Miles. I had no idea about all the stuff that's been going on with his family...some genuine misty eye moments:

Me too. And FTR, I typically root against the SEC team in these games--this blind SEC loyalty thing has always struck me as wrongheaded. To wit, I've rooted against Auburn and Florida for my entire life, why stop now?

Exactly. My favorite two college teams are UCLA and whoever is playing USC.

I've never openly rooted for one of my rivals to win, BUT, when Auburn got screwed out of a National Title shot, there was at least a reasonable argument to pull for conference for future purposes. (given our current sham system)

Hard to believe that that Auburn team with Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Jason Campbell, Devin Aromoshadu, Carlos Rogers, and Ben Obomanu didn't get to play for it. Seems unreal now considering the run the conference has had of late.

I guess I'm pulling for the Tigers tonight despite the fact that Bama winning would get me 2nd place and $60 in my office pool. 1) the world doesn't need Bama to put their millionth trophy in their case and 2) if it's close and LSU loses, it would be all kinds of unjust.

SEC football may be king and their defenses are 2nd to none, but that was boring. Coming from the non-partisan fan, I'd rather see a shoot out than a field goal fest.

Let's hope LSU can open it up like they did in the 2nd half vs. UGA.

To each their own. I can appreciate this and dial a score games. I find this incredibly intense. Every play is big, every first down even bigger.

That said, for the love of God some producer needs to tell Musberger to quit with the Honey Badger shit.

First time all year LSU is playing tight. They need a big play.

I think people who picked LSU (myself included) may have overlooked one thing: Nick Saban is really good and has basically had since the end of the first game with LSU to prepare for this one.

I didn't watch one down of this game, but followed every excruciating moment of the game via the internet.
If the results of this game doesn't destroy the BCS system, nothing on this earth is capable of doing so.

My wife is happy. I should basically have taken the past two days and jerked off for all the work that isn't getting done in this state.

Why? The BCS doesn't guarantee the best game, it guarantees a matchup of the two best teams and I'm pretty sure that's what we got.

One team was completely shut out in what is projected to be the lowest watched BCS title game ever, which follows up an Orange Bowl game that was least watched BCS game ever. Bowl attendance was down as a whole, and the inevitable National Champion didn't even play in its Conference Championship game. That's a big problem that the folks at ESPN and big money sponsors aren't going to ignore.
I don't really care if the game was a blowout or if these were the two best teams in college football this year, I simply stating the end result of the game combined with a terrible bowl season in general lead a bowl proponent like myself to say it is clearly time to scrap this system.
If LSU had won all would be right in the world of college football, and the whining you would hear from schools like Oklahoma State would go virtually unnoticed, but now you have a myriad of one loss teams with a legitimate gripe against the system. I don't know if Les Miles would have called the same game plan against the likes of Oregon, Boise State or Houston, but any of those teams could have got hot and beat LSU last night.

I wish there was a way for the Cowboys to draft the entire Alabama defense all at once.

not sure i agree with this, but do agree that the bowl season was pretty weak. there seemed to be a whole lot of really mediocre teams in the top-level bowls this year. i have no stats to back this up, and I may be full of shit, but it seemed that way.
