That Falcs game has made me completely reevaluate my thoughts on Matt Ryan. I've listened to the lunatic fringe on sports talk and blogs blast his shortcomings for the past 3-4 seasons now and I thought they were just that, over emotional and irrational (of which I'm equally guilty from time to time). I thought he'd get some hard knock lessons and get better and start winning some big games.

No more. I just don't think that dude "has it". He's a solid NFL QB in the no man's land of being able to beat bad teams and lose to the good ones. I watched Roethlisberger and freaking Tebow feel the pressure in the pocket, move up or out, extend the play and make something happen. When that happened to Ryan today he totally crumbled and it's not like the Giants have an all world D. They're borderline bad.

Not to mention Michael Turner is starting to look REALLY slow and on the wrong side of 30 this year.

Some serious soul searching needs to happen going forward with this franchise. Or as Bloor said better, this is some fuck shit.

Oh, and if there is any justice, our O Coordinator will be gone by the end of the week.

Oddly, I was about to ask you falcon boys who you'd blame for the step backward?

Sorry about the loss. Always pulling for the Falcs, were always a team I cheered for pre-Balto franchise.

What's your take on Ryan v. Flacco debate that always seems to pop up. Obviously, Flacco has the better post-season record, but from a QB standpoint, I'd be interested to hear what a Falcons fan has to say. Its always pundits that have no vested interest in either team that pop off opinions. If you took Matt Ryan and put him on the Ravens would he be successful, and vice versa.

What's weird is I think we'd be in A. Worse shape if the Vick-to-prison thing had never happened or B. the exact same shape if they had had the foresight to not trade Matt Schaub right before the Vick fiasco hit.

I'm more worried about Ryan, sure, but dude has at least gotten better in a lot of respects (he's stopped throwing picks for chrissakes), and yeah, Turner looks like a guy who has averaged a shitload of carries for four straight years. Troubling.
I think Mularkey's gotta go just to get some fresh life in the offense. Bring in Mike Martz or some other asshole (too bad McDaniels is going back to the Pats)

As good as Dimitroff has been at drafting defense, he has to do a better job with free agents: Ray Edwards and especially Dunta Robinson are hot fucking trash. When I find myself missing Deangelo Hall, there's a big fucking problem.

There's plenty of blame to go around. I thought the defense was pretty solid for the most part but the bottom line is that offensively, the Falcons overall philosophy is safe and conservative. You can win with that approach but you have to A) have a top 5 defense and B) a grind you down running game. Problem is the Falcons have merely good D and a running game no longer in the top half of the league.

The free agent loss of Harvey Dahl looks bigger now in hindsight on that O line. Also, Roddy White went from Pro Bowler to a drop machine this year (led the league in drops). The addition of Julio Jones was the shoot for the brass ring tweak that was supposed to put us at the next level and it didn't happen. There are simply too many weapons on offense for the level of ineptitude and that is why I'm saying our O Coordinator (Mike Mularky) should be sweating bullets right now.

The most maddening part is that we now have no draft pick in the 1st round and our big free agent signing (Ray Edwards) was, for the most part, an empty uniform this year and his signing is going to make it difficult to sign several players who will be up for free agency this off season.

In short: a crossroads off season for sure

I don't know. Seems like it changes every year. I find them for the most part to be almost mirror images of each other.

Good not great. Both QB's you can win with but your strengths will need to be elsewhere (ie- defense). I'd say Ryan has had the benefit of having better receivers but as posted above, Roddy White did Ryan no favors this year.

Then again, Flacco has Ray Rice and right now Rice>>>Turner.

Agreed. Flacco kinda gets a bad rap though because his #s aren't as strong. There have been numerous times this year that he should've had spectacular games if his receivers didn't have block hands. Finally we're starting to get some decent folks running routes--2fer TEs Pitta/Dickson, Boldin, Smith, etc. Flacco can be pinpoint accurate, and his longball skills are impressive. He just hasn't turned the corner, like I'm sure you ATL folks were hoping Ryan to do as well.

Would you trade Ryan for Romo straight-up today?

A good question. I think it'd be a zero sum game for both teams.

If we're playing the hypothetical game, I'd trade for someone like Matt Flynn and a couple draft picks or a solid O-lineman.

Still, I don't think he's bad and he's not going anywhere so the Falcons just need to acknowledge he's not the next Tom Brady and beef up other units.

i think you'd be buying high at this moment on Flynn- I don't think you could GET him for Matty Ice+a draft pick.

Was glad Andre Johnson got a playoff win this weekend. He stuck out some horrific years in the franchise when he could have gone elsewhere and as a Texans fan it is very appreciated.

Looking forward to the Ravens game. I love our defense and though most people will argue with me, I think our corps is the closest to what Baltimore had at their high-point. Cushing=Lewis, Brooks+Demeko=Reed, JJ<Suggs, but still think the kid is headed for a great career. I have nothing against the Ravens and figure at worst we will have four quarters of Yates and Flacco getting knocked around by these defenses. Should be fun.

Yeah, it is bittersweet. The Texans have proved that they aren't a knockaround team, but the Ravens also wanted them for the 2nd round. Heck, they were so sure they'd beat the Bengals that they send Cam Cameron to watch the game. Its gonna be tough, but we're at home so if we lose it will be a shocker.

Oh, trust me the original song was horrible, and the Tebow version is at least 10X worse.
