Just had my departmental Holiday celebration. There are 10 or so of us in the department. All of us were at the lunch. 8 were drinking (including our boss). I was one of the 2 who were not.
I'm not a big drinker to begin with -- just like the nice beer on occasion. And I have a long drive home anyway. Still, just won't do it. Feels wrong to me.

Do I do it? No. Could I see scenarios in which I would have no moral issue with it? Yes.

But generally, the more alcohol creeps into necessary daily function, the more dangerous it gets on all fronts.

You see why its hard?!
Yes, but essentially it's a benefit for UofM Med school.

I know first hand that the economic structure of the UMN med school is problematic; but a professional baseball team hosting a benefit for a med school?

I really hope this a benefit for some outreach program; but given the mismanagement of finances as of late, I wouldn't be surprised about anything.

The main reason the med school is in trouble is because the administrators decided to pay themselves too much and forgot about everyone else. I can tell some stories.

Prob not like a "pay the rent" benefit scenario. I think it's been an annual thing for a long long time. Think about Lou Gehrig and the domino effect and it all makes good sense. I'm sure athletic teams and hospitals/med schools often partner up and do things like this because it's a win for each side.

But I'm interested in those stories either way.

For students, the med school is one of the most expensive public med schools in the country and yet there are still institutional financial problems. Reportedly, the administrators decided to pay themselves ever increasing amounts of money; and statistically the academic results of the institution have continued to decline. And now people are starting to flee.

Interesting situation that is deeper than that description.

started off with a chiswick (bloody mary) from merlins rest and since then several two-hearted.
my focus has obviously dwindled.

only need a splash of RB to add a sweeter texture to the mix. it's really not all that potent. just some jameson and a dash of vodka. then top it off with the ginger ale and a splash of red bull with 4 or five slices of fresh ginger and a drop of bitters. if you keep the old ginger in the glass for a few drinks while adding some fresh it makes it mildly spicy.

another drink i've warmed up to is some concoction that probably has a proper name but it's: gin (regular piney tangueray as opposed to the 'lighter' gins), ginger ale, angostura and a few pieces of fresh ginger. kicks the shit out of any gin-based drink i've had in the past.

I've been on a ginger kick for the past few months.

I got shut down trying to buy some angostura from cub foods because it was 8am the other day. I was furious. That shit wouldn't fly in Wisconsin.
Your drink sounds great though. I can't get enough ginger myself.

I still have a tendency to pitcher you drinking gallon (or perhaps 2 gallon) long islands with the coleman jugs.

Last weekend I knew a guy who took his woman and a mini-bar bottle of rum to bed just in case.

HAHAHAHA...I'm a DJ so drinking at work is REQUIRED...I've also done my fair share of substances while working.

When I used to work a desk job, it was not uncommon for someone to grab a 6 pack and split it on a friday afternoon. Hell, a bunch of us would go out and get baked at lunch every day.

Drinking would probably help with the bowl job. Since the property management is kind of an on-call job, I have spoken with tenants slightly inebriated. I emailed the wrong Tim once, but that's the extent of it.
