Niners are going to win the whole thing. I'll put money on it, any takers?

And all you metrosexuals should now stop talking football and go back to discussing digestifs.

I dunno man, that 9ers game is the best playoff game I've seen in recent memory. The only team with a "bad" offense left is the Ravens, so we'll just have to see.

Pats v. 49ers, or even a rematch of Pats v. Giants wouldn't be all bad.

eh. I dunno 49ers and Giants both seem like "not ready for prime time" sorta teams that should have been eliminated.

Hmm. Eliminated by the "ready-for-prime-time" Saints and your Packers with their shitty defenses?

Most Superbowl teams have an above average defense. The Packers dropped from #5 in total D last season to LAST in the NFL this season. I'm not surprised they lost to the Giants today.

So you're predicting the Ravens and the 49ers, eh?

No. I'm predicting Patriots and 49ers.

Well the Patriots have the third worst D in the league. An outlier perhaps?

I thought you said 2nd worst D. This changes things.

I both want and need to take this bet, but I'm still smarting from the last time (good cause or not).

Hey, a win is a win. Baltimore knew the Texans were going to be bringing it. To be honest, I thought they performed fairly well--except for a ton of passes that should have been easy catches. Our D held when they needed to--for all that offensive showmanship the Texans had for most of the afternoon they only put up 13 points. The Ravens did what they needed to do, not all Andre Johnson to be a factor and capitalize of TJ Yates' nerves (3 INTs but should've been 4 or 5 if Reed/R Lewis had held onto them). Texans held strong and there was definitely no shame in their season. With that hand that was dealt to them with injuries, etc, Kubiak did an amazing job of keeping their heads on straight.

As for the Pats, they're ranked 31st in pass yards allowed and 17th in rush yards allowed. Obviously Brady is the show--so we'll see. Gotta keep pressure on him.

I watched the game. You're shining a golden light on a mediocre performance.

To be +4 in the turnover battle in a HOME playoff game and only win by a touchdown is extremely troubling for the Ravens. Pretty sure the Patriots beat them by 20+ next week.

Like I said, a win is a win. Ugly or not. We'll see how it goes next week. I'm cautiously optimistic. Gronk and Hernandez will be tough to defend, but who are they going to stick on Smith to contain his speed, and then they also have to contain Boldin?

The Texans are a tough team. Their D is amazing, and don't let the fact that you've never heard of Watts be an indicator of talent. When everyone is healthy, they are going to be scary.

I'm exaggerating, but I really will be shocked if the Pats don't win by at least 10.

Oh, I've definitely heard of Watts - he was a prime draft target by the Cowboys last year, but they had a bigger need on the OL. I knew he'd be good, but not THIS good THIS soon. He is a MONSTER.

I knew you were kidding.

The line opened at NE -7.5. I think they'll cover that as well, although I expect that number will go up.

SF opened -2.5.

I wish this was authentic; but there's clearly some over-reacting going on. It's not all that far off from fans' post-game reactions that I witnessed at my high school job. Schlubs were actually depressed and talking about it for the next week when the Packers lost all while buying scratch-off ticket after losing scratch-off ticket.

Prediction for the remainder of the playoffs (which means NONE of this will actually... you know... happen):

Ravens over Patriots: Based on all the talk this week about Joe Flacco, the Ravens' defense will uncharacteristically struggle, forcing Joe Flacco to have a big day... and he will. Ravens will pick off Tom Brady late to secure the win.

Giants over 49ers: Should be a hard-fought, epic battle of wills. I just see Alex Smith making a huge mistake that will cost his team the win. I actually hope I'm wrong on this, as I would love to see the 49ers back in a Super Bowl.

Super Bowl:
Ravens over Giants: The aging Ravens defensive stars finally win a championship just before their window of opportunity to do so slams shut. Congrats to Lewis, Reed & Suggs.

Flacco sucks 85% of the time. But the Patriots pass defense is on par with Green Bay's. So there's a chance he might have a better time passing this week. Even with the Ravens' defense, the Patriots should be able to pick it apart. I also think Ed Reed is going to be limited by his ankle injury even though all the media reports him as able to play on Sunday. All in all, I'm going with the Patriots over the Ravens.

Another shitty quarterback in the NY vs. SF matchup. Alex Smith should show his true colors this weekend against a decent defense. The 49'er offense struggled for most of the game against the Saints' crappy D. I can see this being close though with the San Fran defense pressuring Manning. As few times as it happened last week against GB, when they got any sort of pressure on him, he threw horribly.

With Thomas getting knocked out in the 1st quarter last week, New Orleans resorted to a purely passing offense making defense calls a little easier for San Francisco. The Giants running game continued to improve throughout the game last week against GB. So given the stronger overall offense and defense of the Giants compared to the team the 49er's beat last weekend, and the 49er's shitty red-zone offense (David Akers more than once scored more points than my running back in FF), the Giants should win this one.

I'm not going to say Flacco is something he's not, but I will say he does get a lot of junk for a guy who's won playoff games previously. Obviously, I watch and read up everything Ravens, so I can honestly say (without trying to be a homer), that Joe's receivers drop an awfully lot of passes. Flacco isn't an elite QB, but he's at least competent. Which, is giving him more credit than most pundits do.
