Damn, I haven't bought shit this year yet. I'm still playing catch up from a bit of a record splurge at the tail end of last year. Finally broke down though and grabbed a replacement copy for my scratched up copy of Frank's Wild Years, some Japanese noise cassette the name of which I forget and pre-ordered the new Sleigh Bells.
Went on a bit on a pre-ordering frenzy today:
Sleigh Bells: Reign of Terror Residents: Coochie Brake (CD out end of last year, but vinyl not for a couple weeks) Colleen Green: Milo Goes to Compton (cassette out and sold out, vinyl forthcoming)
Also ordered the new Leonard Cohen.
Hungover internet browsing on the weekend always seems to end up with my placing orders. Ordered a couple LPs: Ian Martin: Mechanical Rain Frak: Muzika Electronic
Oh, and picked up a few albums at a flea market over the weekend too, including: Lazy Cowgirls: Self-Titled (used to listen to this a good amount years and years ago last time I saw it, was happy to grab it for a buck) Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderly (fantastic mix of instrumentals and vocals on this one) JFA: Self-Titled (original Placebo edition in great shape for 2 bucks, best bargain in a while) Also picked up a few old 50s exotica albums with some great cheesecake album covers and a Jah Wobble albums without labels I've not got around to playing yet and have no idea what's actually on it.
I do love some record show shopping and bought all of the following at prices ranging from 50 cents to a high of 3 dollars. Most were a buck or two:
Miles Davis: Man with the Horn Echo & the Bunnymen: Heaven Up Here Ike & Tine Turner: Ooh Pooh Pah Doo Gram Parsons: Grievous Angel Devo: Freedom of Choice (to replace a scratched to hell copy) The Flying Lizards: Self-titled The Selector: Celebrate the Bullet Ethel Walters: The Complete Bluebird Sessions Big Mama Thornton: In Europe The Searchers: Smash Hits Ian Dury: New Boots and Panties Kraftwerk: Computer World (already had a mint copy, but could't opass it up for 50 cents to giveaway) Tommy James & the Shondells: Crimson & Clover Roy Orbison: The Classic Roy Orbison Mabel Mercer & Bobby Short: At Town Hall Bill Laswell: Book of Exit - Sacred System, Dub Chamber 4 Charlie Christian: Hey Charlie, Let's Play the Blues The Happy Moog Chic: C'est Chic (mint copy for a buck to replace a scratched up copy)
Went in the place with 40 bucks and had a couple dollars left over, even including the $5 admission fee. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.
OK, after this round I gotta let my billfold take a break until some of the stuff I am anticipating comes through. Anyway, grbbed a trio of tapes: Vermillion Father: Go Kart Kamp Worn Vessel: Tragedies of War Mind Over Mirrors: Small Portion (I really like this one, just wish it was a bit longer, over before you know it)
And grabbed a few things on vinyl: Panabrite: Sub-Aquatic Meditation (Really good, but the one they have out on Digitalis I think may be even better, still waiting for state-side distributors to get their copies though) Mind Spiders: Meltdown Zomes: Inspirations
Road trip and I couldn't resist a few thrift store finds while criss crossing Missouri on the way to visiting a museum dedicated to the old State Lunatic Asylum. Picked up the following for a buck a piece:
Thelonious Monk: Criss Cross (mono original/mint) Ramsey Lewis Goes Latin Oscar Peterson: Night Train (stereo original/mint) Chet Baker: Into My Life Brownsville Station: School Punks Frank Sinatra: Sings for the Lonely (mint replacement copy for a scratchy one) The Three Suns: Love in the Afternoon & Twilight Memories The Alarm: The Chant Has Just Begun
For ten bucks I couldn't resist.
So much for not buying more stuff. Well, not really bought this time, traded in a pile of old CDs for the following on vinyl, a couple are replacement copies for some trashed old records, only one 2012 release:
Tommy McCook: Dubbing with Horns Alton Ellis: Sunday Coming Eddy Grant: Killer on the Rampage Lilacs and Champagne: S/T DOA: Bloodied but Unbowed Suicidal Tendencies: S/T Ian Hunter: Short Back & Sides (still sealed) Ike and Tina Turner's Greatest Hits Roy Meriwether Trio: Soup & Onions (still sealed)
(THERE, finally consolidated this as seems to be the system for this thread)
A few more to add to the pile...first an order of reggae albums waiting on my doorstep including:
Dennis Brown: No Man is an Island The Best of Don Drummond Treasure Island in Dub Lee Perry: Return of the Super Ape (Been listening to Super Ape for years, about time to finally get around to the squeal) 4 Lee's Gold 10" 45s - which were all on sale for like 2 bucks each and feature people like Cornell Campbell, Johnny Clarke, Freddie McGregor, IRoy, and more with King Tubby, Tappa Zukie and others throwing on several dub versions. Each disk has 6 songs, three per side and it's a lot of great material
Also picked up a copy of Panabrite's Soft Terminal and Chuck Prophet's Temple Beautiful
Oh yeah, when the reggae stuff arrived, it came with a note that if you spend $50 or more you can get wholesale pricing, so yeah, had to place another order...
Big Youth: Screaming Target Horace Andy: Dance Hall Style Sugur Minott: Dancehall Showcase Vol. II Sugur Minott: The Leader for the Pack Clive Field Marshall: Poor House Rockers ...and another few 10" releases with various artists.
Been enjoying the Pacific Support compilation tape on Draft Music for a while now so I checked out their website and ordered a trio of tapes and an album: Tapes Francis: Microtopies Alex Barnett: Push Telecult Powers: Stars Are the Eyes of God
Vinyl Matt Carlson: Particle Language
Eh, had to go with another order from Experimedia. Their prices kinda suck (usually a buck or two higher than the same records elsewhere) but they have a great selection for experimental/off-beat stuff, sound samples and decent reviews so I can't say they don't make up for an extra dollar here and there. Decent shipping prices as well.
Koi Pond: So Higher Strategy: Super Awareness is Fruit Pulse Emitter: Aeons En: Already Gone
Also forgot to mention that I pre-ordered the new Off! a while back so that should come sometime.
Damn tapes are cheap and addictive:
Padme: Wisdom From The Stars Transmuteo: Dreamsphere Megamix Former Selves: Many Moons Ilyas Ahmed: With Endless Fire
Record Store Day, couldn't go home empty handed: The Dramatics: Joy Ride Kid Creole & the Coconuts: Wise Guy Jackie Mittoo: Evening Time The Kinks: Kronikles ...and a plastic 45 carryer crammed with about 40 r&b singles from the 50s through the 70s.
