i saw them again last night. i thought it was much better. the set list was more in my wheelhouse and they seemed way more in a groove than thursday. "too far apart"->"red eyed and blue"->"i got you" was fantastic; one of the best trifectas i've heard live this year.

i got you

I'm confident you'll like it. You need to rectify it immediately.

i took care of this this past weekend. discostu don't lie. i like it. a lot. like a mutant hybrid of devndra banhart/black keys/moments of phish, allman brothers/howlin rain/dungen...and yes as i type that out it sounds like shit. but basically a lot of stuff i like all warped into one, and they completely pull it off.

i listened to that live at third man album too. definitely looking forward to the live show.

That video is awesome.

Is there a chance Nick Lowe has never heard that sing before?

well, the boys brought it last night. they did what they always do...BUT...i don't know, maybe i just need something like the chicago residency to get my fill of the deep cuts i'd love to hear. the new songs sounded terrific, but there are just a handful of tunes that need to be retired for a while or something? had it not been for the sick encore, i think i would've walked outta there a tad bit disappointed. Red-Eyed thru Wheel was a great run...some of the best playing i've seen from them.

and white denim were as great as i thought they'd be. i'm definitely interested in seeing more than a 30 minute set from them in the future.

I never got that. Like, what's to stop Bluto from just putting a wig on a broom stick and living happily ever after?

he'd be better off, since the broomstick doesn't have that shrill annoying voice

Saw Wilco at San Jose Civic last night. They opened with Sunday Morning, which I alread knew was "the contender" from the new album for "timeless Wilco hit." The rest of the new album had gotten sort of boring for me, although I knew I would come to that Wilco-truth.. the songs seem to get better on record after you've seen them live. And Nels' guitar effects that sometimes seem too pushy recorded, always seem tasty live. They did about 7 of the new songs in the set. Set was good, but wasn't entirely happy with the setlist. Here is my partner's video of a song last night. We are going down to Santa Barbara to see them in two weeks. "On Tour" with Wilco...

Oh, judging by the way that Brinsley Schwarz was obsessed with sounding like The Band, I am certain that he has heard it before. Maybe hasn't played it before...

What I was impressed by, though was how Nick sounded to me like a perfect, laid-back Pops-like foil to Mavis' gospel wailing.
That was fantastic.

One of my favorite songs of theirs.

Anybody catch this most recent Austin City Limits with Wilco? (it aired here three or four weeks ago but I just got around to watching it)

Its a nice performance, but holy fuck, "Far, Far Away" just kills. Really, really good.

Edit: And hear it is:

Edit #2: Its staggering how much better the sound is on my TV.

Yeah, great show - what really stood out to me was "Art of Almost." Seeing it live and watching all the moving parts and pieces that go into that thing made it infinitely more impressive than just hearing it on the album.

I saw this ACL. Quality... they never let me down live. "Far, Far Away" was the lowlight for me, but yeah...

FINALLY getting around to hearing this. The first six songs had me ready to write it off. Just too boring, and sometimes even below "meh" into "annoying." Looking through this thread, I saw the praise for One Sunday Morning and skipped to it, and that's a great song. But whoo, the bulk of this album just does not do it for me so far.
